Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv

I do think it turned out rather well. Good job! Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk Thank you I am very pleased with it so far in the next year or two I’m going to build a larger display tank and will use finishing lumber. Though I’m very excited to get my heat pad and lights this weekend. After t...

Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv

The door a step I’ve been dreading had many plans but found a free alternative that will work well and goes with the theme of things I found in my basement. It’s an old plastic picture frame all I did was remove the picture and backing then pressed the copper staples inward to hold the glass in plac...

Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv

This is just a closer look, it looks nice but has a very unfinished look though you could tell it was all made from a tote and old closet doors so that’s mission accomplished. Image.

Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv

In this picture it’s all framed in and painted the insulated top is ready to be installed. The bottom is well supported and is open at its base under the lip this allows for cords and heat pads to pass up and down onto the sides. So far I’m liking the looks of this tote build. I ended up using silic...

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lpq4aiaagwd6jrf/Photo%202019-01-13%2C%208%2036%2044%20PM.jpg?raw=1 I am about 6’1 for height reference in this picture. This is where everything changes from a plastic tote, old closet doors and scrap wood begin to take shape. It’s already heavy and in the next few picture...

Re: Need new tank

For what it’s worth I’d agree with the tote idea it is so multi purpose later down the road it could easily be an iso tank or used for transport. And if or when you upgrade the tote can go back to being a tote I’ve had the problem of collecting/accumulating 10-30 gallon tanks in the past and I can s...

Re: Where to shop

What part of the world are you from I find in Canada resources can be limited I use eBay and Amazon for a lot of things though I hear lots of good things about Etsy though I have no experience with it. In depth diy guides have been a huge help for me especially those located on this site.

Re: Bow front tank and lid?

Off the top of my head and without any pics I’d suggest maybe cutting a piece of plywood that would fit in the inner rim of the tank lid. Make a copy first out of card board then once it’s cut to the right size cut your plywood once you have that done cut access panels into the top of your plywood t...

Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv 55 gallon tote build.

I applied the new layer of mortar mix this time I went with a product with more qualities of portland cement, and used a few cups of larger gravel for texture and to increase bonding strength. I’ve had issues with cracks so I ended up bolting the foam in place then covering over top of the bolts, ye...

Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv

Sitting on the boat to go into town for a couple days since I’ve finally managed to get a job. Since I’ll be able to pick up some supplies, I wanted to right a list and maybe use this time to reflect of my methods and goals. The I need more mortar the material used above was supposed to be finishing...

Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv

Thank you I am going for a cheaper alternative to doing the build out out of wood then sealing it, costs are relatively as follows construction: tote 26$, mortor 30$, sealant 25$ door and hardware closer to 40$ because I am buying extra. Silicone and foam I have on hand. The display shelf that the t...

Re: Starting journal of construction custom viv

Image starting to come together it’s in that ugly stage of construction though. Still on track for the price of 100$ even for the sculpted and insulated viv body and window.
