Thank you everyone! we’ve been really enjoying the new tank this first week and watching our crabs explore. It took almost the entire week to figure out the humidity- stressful! I think I may need a bigger freshwater pool just for that extra boost [emoji848]

Re: 55 Gallon Upgrade
That is super nice. I know how you must feel. I've had a 10gal for 2.5 years and just recently purchased a 40gal breeder(18x36) -not sure how your 55 compares, but, I haven't yet set mine up (still getting everything I need for inside it) and can't wait until it's ready. Do you have a link for your...

55 Gallon Upgrade
After 5 months of planning (and purchasing) we finally put together our upgrade! 6 months into crabbing and we’ve gone from 10 to 55! So excited... our two crabs are exploring everything. We still want to add more plants and a new lid is at the top of our list but I’m pretty happy with how it turned...

Re: Power Outage
We have power back and the temp is climbing, tank is currently at 85% humidity and 68 degrees [emoji51] one of our crabs (just came up from a molt less than two weeks ago) is very active! can we assume she will at least be okay? or does the damage from a huge temp shift happen later? Power Outage
Crazy weather conditions in the Midwest has us without power... we tried putting blankets over the tank right away to preserve heat but it is down in the 60s and dropping. How prepared does my 7 year old (and lets be honest, me too) need to be for our crabs not to survive? Sent from my iPhone using ...

Crab Greeting Post Molt
It appears we have survived our first molt! Hermie was nowhere to be found for 4-5 weeks but appeared today! He does not look different (same color, not very hairy) but I am unable to see if he has all of his legs (one was partially missing when we got him) so is it possible he didn’t molt and just ...

Dark line at bottom of tank
While it has seemed like our substrate is “shrinking” I have just been trying to ignore it as we have two crabs molting and don’t want to add more on top while they are down... however my husband just pointed out this dark line along the bottom of the tank- is this water? mold? normal? Are the molti...

Re: Moldy Hammock
I hate to beat a dead horse about the mold... but I have more questions. The moldy hammock got moldier- until today I noticed that there is barely any mold left on it at all. I’ve also noticed my crabs are seemingly not eating anything that I try to feed them (fresh and organic fruits, veggies, grai...

Re: Tank Upgrade - substrate
Thank you all for the help! We picked up our new (to us) tank + stand yesterday and they are FILTHY! I’ve got my work cut out for me [emoji23] any tips for cleaning tanks? I anticipate that this will be a slow build as I will purchase things here and there - substrate first, then a heater (have my e...

Moldy Hammock
Well, I tried boiling it in saltwater and completely drying it out before putting it back in but the mold is back so I’m surrendering to it- if I don’t replace it right away it’s okay for them? I know I’ve read that it isn’t harmful to crabs but it still freaks me out [emoji58] if they are crawling ...

Re: Tank Size and Shape
I love your salt water pool! where did you find the bowl?! I love that it has a hole in the side (thinking I could stick bubbler in that way so they don’t knock it out of place when they get in and out)

Less than a month with our hermit crabs and I know this is going to be a long term hobby for my family and I [emoji23] (this all started as a first pet and birthday gift for my 7 year old) so we are upgrading our crabitat from a 10g to a 55g (found an AWESOME deal on Let Go) as I try to work out all...

We put a reptile hammock in our 10g crabitat a little over a week ago! At first our 2 PPs were living in and on it! We put live moss in it and the small one was burying himself and never moving- the last few days I’ve noticed he isn’t in there at all and today I changed the food for my son and saw t...

Re: New & Nervous!!
It’s been 4 days and I don’t think our larger crab, Herbert, has moved from the top of the hammock and Hermie is spending 99% of his (her? my son just assumed they are both boys and I haven’t handled them to confirm) time in the hammock buried in the moss. Can I assume it’s more humid in there than ...
