Do I need to remove my crabs to add 2" of coconut fiber substrate? Do I need to mix it into the sand?

Re: Cleaning crabitat question
Wow! That much?! I just put in 3 bags of Hermit Beach sand. Ok, now how do I get the crabs out to change it? One I very rarely see but the other 2 I can get when they come out tonight and put them in their little plastic container. It has regular play sand in it. Hermit Beach is made by Fluker's so ...

Re: Cleaning crabitat question
I finally found the bag of sand that I used in my crabitat. It's called Hermits Beach. Is that ok?

Re: Newbie needing advice on humidity
I have 3 crabs and 3 extra shells, but one got into the bigger shell, and went back into the smaller shell. The water is Imagitarium Saltwater Hydration and Freshwater Hydration. The food is Wholesome Hermit Crab Food by Eco Animal Pet Products.

Re: Newbie needing advice on humidity
I have sand substrate 4 " deep. I did put the damp towel over the screen top of aquarium then covered that with stretch and seal. (Un)fortunately, that worked very well as the humidity is up to 87%. Tank temp is 83°. All the crabs stay hidden under the sand all day. Two, the bigger ones come out at ...

Re: Newbie needing advice on humidity
My water dishes are too shallow for a bubbler. (I don't know what that is, but sounds large). The sand is dry and the top is a screen that I keep mostly covered with a damp cloth. I will try the moss, but how do I get the sand to sandcastle consistency? Sorry to be so stupid.

Newbie needing advice on humidity
I'm finding it difficult to keep the tank humidity at 80% or 85%. I keep a damp cloth over the top screen, but the humidity reading is usually in the 60's and 70's. I don't think my hermies are happy since I hardly ever see them.

Re: Cleaning crabitat question
Ok, now I'm confused. One place said play sand had harmful stuff for hermies and to only use sand for hermies or coconut fiber. Can I add my coconut fiber on top of the sand? Also, I asked the manager of Petco to speak to someone in charge about the hermies being in painted shells and not carrying s...

Re: Cleaning crabitat question
It's sand I ordered for hermit crabs but I have since gotten some coconut fiber that I would like to mix in, but certainly don't want to suffocate any under the sand.

Cleaning crabitat question
I have 3 hermies. 2 come out regularly at night. The 3rd one I hardly ever see. How can I clean their substrate if they are always buried? It's been almost a month since I got them and the tank is getting nasty looking.
