Re: To handle or not to handle?
One of the questions that has plagued crabbers for years, Finleyfoo. Good one. :D I generally tend to avoid handling the crabs as much as possible. If I need to arrange tank things or give a quick soak after molting, then occasionally I will, very gently, pick them up and place them down as soon as ...

Re: Do Hermit Crabs Actually Sleep?
Perfect! Thank you; now that I see your picture, I realize my crabs do that quite a bit. They'll prop themselves somewhere warm and chill for an hour or two.

Do Hermit Crabs Actually Sleep?
I've seen on HCA a couple of different posts referring to hermit crabs sleeping, or lack thereof. Do they really sleep? I'm not sure how to tell.

Re: it's like they KNOW...
Hilariously accurate! All 6 of mine went down at a time when I had purchased another tank and was ready to switch them. I was able to locate several that were just digging around fo fun and coming up every couple of hours, but one stayed down for about a month before surfacing!

Re: Cleaning crabitat question
How often do you normally clean the sand out? I have my tank about half and half all-purpose play sand and EcoEarth. the Substrate is about 8 or so inches deep; I don't change it unless I am switching tanks. It really doesn't get that dirty.

She Lives!!
*Something about a crab-crazy mama that always makes me want to freak out when a crab re-emerges  * Lil' girl came up about a week ago and had this crabber shouting "Hallelujah!" She'd been down for about two months, which was a little weird for her being such a small, medium-ish size. Anyway, ...

Re: Best way to catch flies in tat?
YES. ACV and dish soap have been a lifesaver for my household. The knats and fruit flys get very intense in the summer and won't leave us alone!

Re: Heater
I purchased both of my heaters from Amazon, and they both work wonderfully. I don't have a specific preference for brand, but the type I use now is ZooMed. I have a 30-gallon heater and a 5-gallon heater on alternate sides of my tank. Honestly, it gets the job done very well.

It looks like you've got most of it under control for now; crossing my fingers!
