An Update - Providing some Closure

Hi all, I haven't been active for a very long time on this forum, and my last posts were on my topic in Molting where I was worried about my little crab who had been down for five months (the topic is called "It's Been a While...") I wanted to update how it ended, because I've seen so many posts lik...

Re: Fresh molt

Hi! I have also noticed this type of behavior in my crab recently after he molts! He is usually super active and outgoing, but he's really shy and lazy after he molts. I affectionately refer to this behavioral pattern as "post-molt jitters"! From what I've noticed from my crab, normal behavior usual...

Re: It's Been a While...

Thank you everyone for the advice. I plan to dig and upgrade at the end of June, or when my other crab comes back up from his molt.

Re: It's Been a While...

[/quote] There's really no reason to dig at all. From the sound of your post, you just continually try to justify why you are wanting to dig. I totally get worrying. I had a crab that was in smaller than a 1" opening shell stay underground for 6 months!! I thought for sure they were dead, all their ...

Re: It's Been a While...

Ok, everyone. I know you are all very against digging, but Friday has now been down for five months and Jarvis went down for his molt a couple weeks ago. I expect Jarvis to be back mid-late June or so, and I plan to dig after the six month mark. I know that everyone is very, very against it, but I w...

Re: Ants

I kept some sugar ants a while back for a school project. I am no expert, but I did learn a lot from that project. The thing about ants is that you need a fertilized queen to keep replenishing the colony or it will simply die slowly (like mine did). They are definitely fascinating! I loved watching ...

Re: Favorite foods?

I agree with the shrimp and popcorn! The crabs love those! I also thought it's worth mentioning banana, since my crab can't get enough of it and usually you can just cut them a little piece when you eat one yourself! It's resourceful and a crab favorite! Honey is also a good and popular treat. :D

Re: It's Been a While...

Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately I need the sand from the old tank for the new tank, and I also don't have the space in my room to have two tanks running at once. Since I only have two crabs, it's more logical in my situation to wait for them both to be up. I know I'm not supposed to dig, bu...

Re: It's Been a While...

Since I don't remember exactly the day she went down, I can be pretty sure it has now been four months. I know everyone is very, very against digging, but it's becoming more and more tempting because she's been holding back the tank upgrade since she first went down. Four months seems like an insane...

Re: It's Been a While...

This is just an update that it has been another month (over three total) and there is still no sign of Friday, or any smell. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Re: It's Been a While...

Thank you all for your responses, they've made me feel better since last night when I was hopelessly convinced of the worst. I know not to dig unless it's an emergency but the weird circumstances just made me unsure. She's a weird little crab who doesn't eat as much and is not as big as her friend w...

It's Been a While...

Hey all, I have had two small/medium crabs, Jarvis and Friday for almost a year and a half now. Jarvis came up from a molt today that had started in early January, which is awesome. But Friday has been buried since before Christmas. Her last molt before this one was about a year ago, which I know is...

Re: What Size Crabitats Does Everyone Have?

My two are stuck in the 10 gallon because Friday decided to molt when we were planning to upgrade. The 29 gallon is waiting in the basement!

Re: Spray bottle mixup; residual peppermint oil

No problem! I'm happy to help! I know how you feel, I accidentally fed the crabs scallions once before checking the food lists (closest I could find was onions, unsafe), and the tank smelled faintly like onion for the next day or two. You might want to make that post about your lost crab, it sounds ...
