what's the best way to clean a used tank and is there any ones I need to stay away from with what lived in them

I had one crab up till last week which stayed in his hut 90% of the time I went and got another one hoping this would help get him out and more active and readying I need two but now they both stay in there all the time lol any ideas to get them out and more active or is this normal. Is this good to use or just take back

I was going to use fresh water, now in my tank I was thinking of having a small pond with salt water and one with water

what more to you recommend I get I will get some play sand from Lowes as of now he has not moved in a day just 1/2 in the sand
