Re: Ultratherm for 20 gal. Long
Is there a reason you are choosing to buy a 20 gallon long instead of the high? You will get more room with the high, and they are the same size as well, just a small change in length. The only reason a lot of people use the higher tanks rather than longer ones is because they allow for more room f...

Re: Ultratherm for 20 gal. Long
A good idea may be to go ahead and get the Ultratherm (especially since you’ll probably need it in Winter), and get a thermostat to hook it up to. Thermostats help by turning the heat mat on when it’s too cold, and turn it off when it’s too hot. The one I use is from Amazon and is for germinating s...

Ultratherm for 20 gal. Long
Hello! I’m upgrading to a 20 gal long and getting a new heater since I have the zoomed one and don’t think they will be safe to use once I take them off my 10 gal. I would like to get an Ultratherm. I think the 6x23 one would work so that I have a cool side of the tank. However I’m worried about the...

20 gallon long topper
Hello! I’m upgrading my 10 gal. tank to a 20 gal. long. However I was wondering if any of you know a good glass lid for it. For my 10 gallon I have a Aqueon versa lid. I’m considering getting the bigger one for my 20 gal. because I can’t find anything else. The versa lid as a gap in the back which I...

What’s their diet like? They need protein. How many shells do you have?

Re: Do hermies hide shells?
When I had ants last week, I had to replace the substrate. I found so many shells underground! Some were rather deep so I think it’s deliberate.
Re: Ants!
Thank you so much! I dumped everything. They were pretty deep in the soil. I know they had only been there overnight at most but they had dug deep. I had one molted but he is small and had already been down a few weeks. When we found him he looked bigger so we are pretty sure he finished molting. I ...

Moving/Chemicals/Crabs Under
So I’m in a tough spot and would appreciate any advice. I have had my crabs for over 3 months and we have been really happy. My crabs currently live in my classroom. However they will be replacing the countertops so that means a strong adhesive. And right now my tank is pretty close to those counter...

How is his shell? Maybe he is uncomfortable in it. Try putting a few shells near him.

Re: How do I know if my crabs are defecating?
I find pieces occasionally on their log. However, I didn't notice the pieces until I got bigger crabs. I only had 2 teenies for a bit and didn't notice anything. When I got my medium crab I noticed more poop.
Re: dry food?
There are Etsy shops that are great. I use some from the Hermit Crab Patch. I also use dry foods I find at the grocery store like pumpkin seeds, quinoa, and dried coconut. For protein, I use dried bloodworms and Zilla's Omnivore mix. I have a separate section for fresh fruits/veggies and honey. But ...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing
Today, they have a gourmet meal of calcium coated dried fruits, veggies, crickets, mealworms, and bloodworms on a bed of quinoa and kelp sprinkled with ground eggshells and a side of coconut and honey. Later tonight I will add some sort of fresh veggie or fruit.
