Re: Adding sand during a molt
And.... I should say "You NEED to remove all of your substrate and start over". There is no "may" about that....

Re: Adding sand during a molt
Unfortunately, due to the calcium sand, you may want to remove all of your substrate and start over.... A neighbor of mine had put calcium sand in her tank (without my knowing) and one of her big one's dug down..... she found the shell with the crab solidified inside as if he was fossilized...

Re: Moss pit access
It was determined in one of my FB groups that the Flexible Moss bridge is not safe. I had one, but returned it. You can tell it's just not "natural" moss that is used. Unfortunately our little babies tend to try and eat everything they crawl on.

Re: Aquarium room
Awesome room. :-) I raised and bred axolotl's up until about 6 months ago. They are such interesting and addicting creatures! Just as much as hermit crabs are it seems. LOL I had an entire room dedicated to all of my axie tanks as well. I would only suggest to be careful with the axolotl. Remember, ...

Re: Heating Problem
I don't currently have it insulated, but was planning on putting some on the back after payday. (the downfall of monthly paychecks lol). Right now I thought the 2 heaters on both sides would help out, but I guess they just aren't enough. I will put some blankets on top as well, hopefully that will h...

Heating Problem
I'm relatively new to hermit crabs, but not new to tanks and exotic pets in general. I currently have a 60g set up with 5:1 Sand/EE substrate, 7-8" deep. A Reptile Basics heater on the back, above the substrate (the 11"x48"), there is about 2-3" between the top of the sub and the bottom of the heate...

Re: Need to move tank but has 2 molters
You may want to add a note to the extension cord...... Especially if they will be doing work while you are not there. Contractor's and builders are well known to unplug whatever they want to plug in their equipment instead.... And maybe a sign that says "Live Animals" so they don't knock into the ta...

Re: Climbed out of cage
Last night one of my new big crabs decided to climb on the back plastic piece of the glass lid, to the power cord going between the two LED lights... Nothing is within reach of those items by like 5" or more....... I have no idea how he got up there, but there he was when I got home. Stayed there fo...

Think of them as a gang of gaggling women....... If one goes to the restroom, the rest follow with her.
Not that I'm like that, but most other women are. lol

Re: Do Hermit Crabs Need Holes In Transportation Containers?
From what I understand, it would really depend on the length of time they would be in the transport containers and the size of the crabs in relation to the container. An hour or less: I would say no need for holes if the container is big enough. Longer than an hour: I would say yes if the container ...

Re: Wondering .....
Hahah. Why was it evil??
I could just imagine the look on my boss' face though. She has one of those expressions that displays EVERYTHING she is thinking, on top of being a germophobe.... The combo with a hermit crab at work would have been comical.

Re: Wondering .....
That makes me feel better. Thankfully I was able to talk them into letting me pick him up after work! I can imagine the look on coworker's faces if they saw a hermit crab sitting on my desk. LOL
