Re: 90 gal basic setup
i've been contemplating the same thing about putting two 1 gal in a 29 gallon tank. i figured half submerged really would be the best for space and access. Although for water changes i was planning on using a water siphon so i would never have to remove the tanks once they were added

Question about worms?
It seems like a lot of people feed mealworms for protein here. this seems like a pretty solid plan but i was wondering if there was any pros or cons to feeding them dried or fresh? bugs dont bother me at all so i was wondering if it would be better to just keep them live and cut them up when its fee...

Re: New crabitat new owner
We have a screen lid and use a heating pad that sticks to the bottom of the tank. Also, what does he need in the isolation tank? Will he eat/drink during molting? He was super active then one day just stopped and sat right on the surface, no fishy smell coming from him, I dont think hes dead. Thank...

Re: Amethyst for Decoration?
Ooooh I love this idea. As far as my knowledge of gemstones goes, amethyst is a pretty stable structure and therefore inert. (I worked in jewelry for years.) As long as you don’t mind the stones getting worn etc, I think that’s fantastic, and would love to see it! [emoji3590]Dave the Wondercrab~Pat...

Re: Questions for those who use UVB (or know about it)
Yes and yes! I originally bought the zoomed set for my turtles, had problems with the bulbs not producing UVB, and then invested in the Arcadia bulbs during that same store's Black Friday sale. Okay awesome! Thanks so much you've been super helpful! How do you know when bulbs aren't producing UVB a...

Re: Questions for those who use UVB (or know about it)
For the price, Arcadia bulbs work better since they are proven to last a full year. The other brands are supposed to, but most reptile keepers recommend replacing every 6 months. The T5 bulbs are interchangeable when you have the matching fixture. The Arcadia are a little stronger, so a 6% would be...

Re: Questions for those who use UVB (or know about it)
I have UVB on all of my crabitats, I use Reptisun T5-HO bulbs on mine. I swear by increased activity, and happy healthy crabs. My crabs breed also. :) The reason I originally purchased UVB was to replicate their natural environment. Straws have to have it though :) I'm nervous about buying the wron...

Questions for those who use UVB (or know about it)
I'm still in the process of trying to set up my crabitat and making sure everything is just right! the only thing i really need to figure out is the lighting. It's quite hard to find information about hermit crabs and UVB scattered across this forum. Some swear it does nothing at all, others say the...

Re: Amethyst for Decoration?
My real concern is the crabs not the rocks. I have quite a few nice, large, natural, and untreated amethysts. I wouldn't mid a couple getting slightly worn down. I know amethyst and quartz are very sturdy stones so I don't think the crabs would be able to break anything off. They're also not water s...

Amethyst for Decoration?
I have a pretty large collection of rocks and minerals and I was wondering if amethyst would be safe to put in my crabitat? It doesn't dissolve in water or humidity so I don't see why it would be different from putting regular rocks in as long as it gets properly sanitized. I haven't been able to fi...

Food From the Ocean
Hi all! I'm planning on adopting some hermit crabs soon. I live very close to the Puget Sound and i was wondering if it would be safe to bring some things from the ocean for my crabs to eat! things like: -seaweed -kelp -moss I also have a separate question about bringing fish or other crabs home. I ...
