You don’t need to leave holes open on the lid they will get enough ventilation when you open the tank to change the water and food

Re: Just got our little guys yesterday!
Thank you so much! So far they’re just hiding under the substrate and not moving or eating as far as I can tell. The humidity is a little difficult to keep in the correct range, so we’ve been spraying the tank a few times a day and partially covering the screen top with Saran Wrap and the the humid...

Re: Hello!!!
The number one way to save money is not to buy anything with a photo of a hermit crab (or says hermit crab) on it.

Just got our little guys yesterday!
Tank: don’t use anything less then 10 gallon Heater: buy an under tank heater for reptiles and put it on the BACK. Above the substrate line. Substrate: needs to be at least 6 inches deep. Use play sand and eco earth and mix at a 5-1 ratio (5 parts sand and 1 part eco earth) must be moistened to sand...

Re: Crabs Bonding
I just received some new hermies and was very curious to see how they interacted with each other! My smallest would go up to my biggest when he was sleeping and tap on his shell. My guess is that the little crab was wanting to play. Has anyone had this happen before? It’s so interesting to see them...

Re: I'm a new owner, looking for a few tips.
Just make sure that the larger crabs don’t bully the small ones or not allow them to get any food or water You’ll get more use out of the shells if you have different sized crabs too. In the wild they will line up by size to change shells. Different sized crabs will also prevent ugly shell fights Se...

Re: New crabs !
Anything else I can do to prepare the tank for when I go away in July for 6 days. I’m going to replace the water in the dish/moss put/ put tons of food in the dish. And pray the temperature and humidity is going to be ok. Of course I’m hoping that crabcake stays down and happy decides to go down to ...

Re: New babies
Hermiesguardian I keep extras on all my dishes. I’ve got 4 dishes in the tank now and I’ve got 11 out of the tank. Most are for food/ supplements I wash them when I have none left. Lol So, in short I could literally set up a whole other tank. Don’t have any place to put it though...

Re: New babies
That super light and little shell on on your hand looks exactly like what the shell bashful had. I miss bashful.. I was buying cat treats and small animal treats yesterday to feed to them and the cashier at the Petsmart told me they had two crabs left in stock. I was told they were sold out till Jul...

Re: New Crab!
Substrate- can use either or a mix of them. College- if your collage says fish only then fish only. Hermit crabs are advertised on Petsmart website with the fish but all their supplies are advertised with reptile stuff. Most colleges say a single fish in a tank under 1 gallon. Hermit crabs can’t be ...

Re: Question about owning new crabs
I’ve never had E Hermit crabs but if you just bought him he’s probably stressed and confused where he is. Often times new animals no matter the species- when they get stressed the immune system is lower and therefore they are more likely to get sick. I’d say leave him alone. Hermit crabs are also no...

Re: Hello! New hermit crab owner!
Welcome! The biggest piece of advice I can give is stay far away from anything that has a photo of a hermit crab OR says hermit crab on it 10 gallon is the minimum sized tank you should consider getting. Use play sand and eco earth and you need at least 6 inches. Will need an under tank heater that ...

Re: Ask questions about food not included on lists here!
Me again, I was wondering if this could be fed to hermit crabs. It's for hedgehogs. Product Description: Delicious trail mix-style treat designed specifically for hedgehogs with some of their favorite ingredients, including mealworms, celery, and strawberries. Vita Prima Trail Mix Treat is the tasty...

WOW. I've just been feeding freeze dried food to my crabs. The last meal that was in their dish was: Freeze Dried Fruit (Zilla), Flowers (Tortoise Flower topper), Red Shrimp (Zoo Med), Soldier worms (Fluker), Thrive Calcium Powder, Fruit Salad (Zoo Med), Peanut Crunch (Zoo Med) and Blueberry treat (...
