Re: Hermit crab not moving

Hi and welcome to crabbing! If you haven't already, check out the basic care sheet to make sure your tank is set up correctly: https://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=119273 Since she is fairly new, hanging in one spot may just be her way of destressing. Does she retract into h...

Re: Crab has been molting for 4 months

Ok thank you for that. This is one of the two new ones I got so my little one could have friends since his buddy passed. Only other thing I can think of is it escaped before I got the glass top, but I can't imagine that it would survive in the house with no food or humidity. Guess I'll never know u...

Re: Crab has been molting for 4 months

I've got one that has been missing for a good month if not two at this point. I am worried to death. But wouldn't there be that 'smell' if they passed even under the sand??? I keep telling myself since I don't smell anything off, she's just doing her thing. ??? I had a small crab go missing for 7 w...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank

wow!! My other crab just came up from molting as we speak! I am so relieved but feel even more pressed to get the tank ASAP. Should I isolate him right away? People think crabs are cheap pets, but getting them initially setup can cost a bit, so I totally understand. As long as a crab didn't surface...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank

Ps- if you do get a 40 gal breeder, don't buy the Aqueon glass lid for it. It doesn't fit! It's like a cm or two too big. I read in reviews that's happened to a lot of people with that lid. So weird!

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank

Makes sense, I'll return it and check out the website you sent me. One of my crabs is borderline jumbo so he is going to be so stoked about his upgraded home :) Thank you for your help! Y'all have been great, I may need to bother you again in the future lol Aw glad I could help! Keep an eye out for...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank

Even though the tray isn't useful, do you think I could keep it, or could it be harmful? I think it might be more of a hindrance than anything. It creates air flow at the bottom, which might dry your sand out, or let the sand leak out. I'd stick with a regular aquarium. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank

Another thing, I’m pretty sure I ordered the incorrect terrarium so I’ll be returning it. I thought that I could just not use the sliding tray at the bottom and it would be fine, but I’m worried it may affect the humidity. Like I said, I’m new[emoji2358]. Go easy on me lol. Its called thrive easy c...

Re: Heating mat size/watts for 40 gallon tank

Thank you so much for the helpful info! Also, how do you maintain the ideal temp without using a thermostat? I know Curly said she plugs/unplugs her uths as needed. I'm too lazy for that lol, so I use thermostats. Here's the brand I've been using for years, and it works well: https://www.amazon.com...

Re: Rabbit Chews for Hermit Crabs

I checked out the ingredients, and 3/4 are on the safe food list. I did see forget me not flowers on an Etsy hermit crab store and an Australia based store, The Happy Hermie. So I'd say those flowers are safe too.
