Re: HELP! Introducing 3 adopted crabs to my 1 crab?

Of course mere minutes after I posted the above, Moe came out of hiding and “met” the biggest of the three new girls. I was told she can be a bit of a bully and she was on top of him for a bit while he was checking out one of the new shells, but she seems to have moved on. I think she was used to be...

Re: HELP! Introducing 3 adopted crabs to my 1 crab?

Also, one of the new additions changed shells right in front of me - that was one of the coolest things I’ve seen!! lol

Re: HELP! Introducing 3 adopted crabs to my 1 crab?

So today I got the three crabs we adopted and brought them home. I had added some more substrate since I wanted to make sure there was plenty of digging space should any of them want to hide. The three new girls have been all over the tank and have been exploring like crazy. However, Moe, our existi...

HELP! Introducing 3 adopted crabs to my 1 crab?

Hi! Just a bit of background in case anyone hasn't seen some of my earlier posts: We are new crab owners. In late August, we "rescued" a PP that someone was going to release at the beach. I got him set up with a 29 gallon tank, 6" of 5:1 substrate, UTH, fresh and salt water, and some accessories. He...

Re: Recently rescued a crab

So I thought I'd post an update and ask a question... After having last been seen on 8/29 (and no signs at all of him coming up) Moe *finally* resurfaced this morning after 11 weeks being under!! I legitimately shouted to my husband and kids, "OMG - he's alive!!!" when I saw him out and about. He'd ...

Re: About One Month into being New Crab Owner

I’m in a similar situation with our one rescue crab who has now been under for almost 3 weeks. We’d only had him for about a week and almost as soon as we got him into his new 29 gallon tank, he went down and hasn’t been seen since. I was actually coming here to look for/ask about how often to chang...

Re: Leaf litter

Thanks all! I actually found a great app that lets me take a pic and identifies the plant! It’s called PlantSnap if anyone else wants to try! It’s free I also have an app called PlantNet on my iPhone that I use to identify plants/flowers when I photograph them. Super helpful! Sent from my iPhone us...

Re: White mold over buried (molting?) new crab

Many of us have cameras. I have 2 in one tank. How big are your crabs? You want the container to be deep enough for them to submerge. Right now, we just have the one crab - I would like to get him some friends but I’m also waiting for him to settle in first. He’s about golf ball size and I now know...

Re: White mold over buried (molting?) new crab

I have to say I'm kind of amazed at how well he can cover the hole(s) that he created when he goes under. If it hadn't been for the food being moved out of the dish and the water dish being empty (and the mold being "gone" due to the sand being turned over), I never would have known he was even up a...

Re: White mold over buried (molting?) new crab

Well, this guy loves to make a liar out of me. Of course after I posted, he apparently came up overnight and checked out the piece of duck jerky I’d put out and either visited his salt water dish or upended it when he emerged. I really need to get him deeper water containers but I’m loathe to dig in...

White mold over buried (molting?) new crab

Hi - so as I posted in the New Crabs/New Owners forum, we rescued a crab a few weeks ago but we're total newbies at this. I've since gotten him into a 29 gallon tank with 5-6" of 5:1 substrate and on Monday, I got a UTH mounted on the back with heat and humidity now at around 80°/80%. So we last saw...

Re: CrabStreet Journal info inaccurate?

So, I've only been at this for a couple weeks, but recently set up a 29 gallon tank with play sand I purchased at HomeDepot. It came out of the (unripped) bag more or less already at sandcastle consistency (and didn't smell or otherwise look "bad" or "off") and other than misting the top occasionall...

Re: Recently rescued a crab

So Moe surfaced again Friday evening and ate a small piece of cheese - not having any clue how much to expect him to eat, I probably should have put out more. Regardless, he buried himself again Friday night and hasn't been up since (no signs of the sand being disturbed and he hasn't touched the foo...

Re: Recently rescued a crab

So it looks like he surfaced overnight - possibly through the same hole under the water dish - and visited the new water dish and nibbled on some of the cherry half I put out (but doesn't seem to be a fan of carrots). There are a couple new holes in different locations, but he's back underground now...
