Re: Post your stories and pics of crabs in wheels here!
Amazing tank! I love it, and I think your hermeis do, too! Where did you get the rope? It looks like it's from an Etsy store... Mine? Thank you! They seem entertained. lol I had to experiment and find stuff that wouldn't mold in crazy high humidity. Do you mean the second level getup on the left wi...

Re: Post your stories and pics of crabs in wheels here!
Our kids love their wheel. I'm so glad you all suggested we get one! I know those shells are too big for them, but they use them like little step ladders to get in and out of their wheel and I think it's adorable. Their clothing shell selection is plentiful, so I don't feel bad making them climb on ...

Random 12am thoughts
Have any of you noticed your hermies acting a certain way when fed certain things? For example, my three babies go cocoa bananas when I give them chicken bones. The tank is totally dug up the next day. New holes everywhere. Shells dragged all over the place. Poo in the second story where I would swe...

They bury every day, but they were up last night so I don't think they're molting. I'l hunt for it after work today. Thanks!Hermiesguardian wrote:Great tank! Even cooked food will turn. But don't dig around for it if there are any crabs buried.

Chicken bones - ew
Heyla, all! Our little babies are doing really well. We finally have all three of them up at night and they seem to be getting along nicely. It is SO cute to watch Tommy and Cute Face go nose to nose and wiggle their little antenae at each other. It's like little old women stopping to gossip. My fav...

Re: Cheating a little bit
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk I'm the same, no poisons around the house. I just feed the birds and they do most of the work for me. My dog was sniffing a big praying mantis the other other night on our walk. I guess the mantis had enough of being sniffed and flew up and bopped my dog on the ...

PS- I don't blame you about the crickets and grasshoppers. I try not to look directly at them when I'm crushing them up for the crabs. [emoji53] Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk Yeah... No. LOL We have tons of crickets that have infested our garage and I've thought about it. Alas, you ar...

Re: Cheating a little bit
I have a friend who won't use a microwave for the belief that it puts radiation out, and it just baffles me how she doesn't starve to death. We use ours way more than the stove, so trust me I get it. I do scrambled eggs in a non-stick pan because I find it easier to clean up, but my "scrambled eggs"...

Re: Cheating a little bit
Wow, it sounds like you're doing way better than I am with your foods! As long as your protein for dinner isn't seasoned/buttered when you give it to them, I'd say you're good to go. I'm much lazier than you, so I cheated and ordered food from The Hermit Crab Patch lol. I supplement that with fresh...

Cheating a little bit
Heyla, all! So I'm trying really hard to give the hermies a nice balanced diet, but I'm going to be honest and say that a "balanced diet" and eating organic has never been something I'm any good at. I've read the food list a billion times and I'm doing my best but I'm not sure I'm getting it done. I...

Re: Tupperware lid as a food dish
I didn't have a dish when we got the babies, but I had egg shells from breakfast that morning. I boiled them and broke them up and they make little tiny bowls that are the perfect size to put piles of food in. Also, they have the option of eating the shell if they decided they need calcium. Bonus: I...

Re: Brand new to hermies, emotionally attached, and trying really hard!
A bit late, but I absolutely love this post. Gave me a good chuckle. I especially enjoyed "helicopter hermie-mom'ing", and can relate to most of these worries. I just started doing this myself a little over a year ago, so I've learned quite a lot along the way, but am far from being an expert or he...

Jeff came up!
Aaaaaaaah! I'm so excited I could cry! Hermit Jeff was a sad little fair crab with a missing leg. I didn't know what I was doing, but I tried really hard. We got a decent setup going, got him two friends, and had three crabs for about a week, then he disappeared. I may have cried a little bit, think...

Re: Maybe a dumb question
Well, for my moss pits I just bought shower caddies on Amazon with suction cups and stuck them on the wall. I need to figure out a better way for them to get up to them though. I had a really nice reptile net that the crabs loved, always on it, but with the humidity it kept molding. So I got a hamm...
