Re: Temporary tanks/ISO
I'm sure I'll be watching them close. I'll probably set the Wyze up to look in on the 20 and the new ones, if they are like the first set they'll be active for a few days then settle in. The ones in the 40 gal seem to take turns with their activity.

Re: Temporary tanks/ISO
From what I've read on here, it's okay to put the newbies right in with the established crabs. Just give them a dip in the freshwater pool first so they smell like the tank/environment of the established crabs. Please someone correct me here if I'm wrong! I had my one crab Beau for 7 years, and res...

Temporary tanks/ISO
Attempt number 3 to post this thread.... I have about 6 threads going on in my head right now.... I you don't care to read my crab drama I'm bolding my questions below. I've been crabbing since September 2019. I started with a 10, quickly had a 20 long then a 40 breeder and I am almost done building...

Re: Need Plexiglass
Ooo that's a good price. I have a hobby lobby trip planned this weekend. I found it online at Lowes as well and I can get away with 2 sheets that I wouldn't have to cut.Hermiesguardian wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 12:46 amI got my plexiglass at Hobby Lobby. About $6 for a sheet. By cutting it down I was able to cover my 75 gal lid.

Re: Need Plexiglass
Hmmm good points as always. I was thinking about maybe trying to hinge on the 75. Currently I have 4 pieces cut from what I had available from a stained glass collection covering the 40. I need something to cover the 75 while the 3 down in the 40 finish up molting, I can take the glass off the 40 fo...

Need Plexiglass
So tonight I was feeding crabs and I went to re- cover the tank with a glass lid that I have cut and grinded and I was holding it one handed by a corner and it broke, hit the tank and shattered into a bazillion pieces! Thankfully crabs were all still sleeping , most of the pieces fell on the floor. ...

Re: Hi! New here!
Welcome to the HCA! They are a bit of a challenge to get set up, once you have humidity and temperature stable it gets easier. You are right, they are not cheap, even if you are trying to be cost efficient. Pet sand isn't a lot of fun either. But they are amazing and fascinating creatures. http://he...

Re: Crabtopia build journal
It's getting really close now. As this project has evolved I have been able to somehow temper my impatience with the knowledge that I want it done right the best way possible. That and after just so long I get tired and decide to come back another day. I wanted the outer covering boards to look real...

Re: Video cameras?
Click on your camera window , in the upper right hand side there is a gear. Click motion capture and then it will catch motion in the tank (sometimes). Theres another section (I forget where) that you can adjust the sensitivity of when it will detect. I turned it all the way up. When it detects moti...

Re: Video cameras?
I agree. I just bought the basic $20 wyze and an sd card for it. It attaches to the wall easy and is fairly straight forward and easy to use. You register it and control it with an app on your phone. You can set it to motion capture which works decently enough to help you know when they hiding or st...

Re: Websites that humanely ship hermit crabs?
Y’all ordered strawberries that came through the mail. They didn’t bring those over humanely. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, period. Nothing is cruelty free. From the migrant laborers farming in extreme conditions for pennies on the dollar to pet stores to the clothes you purchas...
