Re: Temperature and molting
UTHs don't heat the substrate that well to begin with considering the depth that's required, but removing the tank's heat source would probably only make it worse. 75-85 degrees is typically needed. Would you be able to purchase another heat mat? You definitely don't want to remove a necessity from ...

Re: Temporary Tank for cleaning
thanks! just the kind that you would find at a pet store? and are the paper towels harmful for them, because I used them a couple months ago, and I'm not sure if that may have had any health effects on them! sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure their care is the best I can make it! A...

Re: New Furry Addition!
First, I’m no mod. Second, that seems really harsh, and totally uncalled for. Even if it wasn’t in the ‘other pets’ section, who cares? We all love animals here, or at least I thought so... Now- Third- congrats on your new friend! Love the name, and I had to giggle when you said he’s still kinda de...

Re: UTH placement
Definitely on the side! You don't need to heat the substrate, but you do need to heat the air. With how much depth their substrate needs to be, a UTH placed underneath won't provide that needed heat. It can also be dangerous to the crabs if placed underneath, since it has the potential to create hot...

Re: It's Been a While...
Never dig, unless it's an emergency. Emergency as in tank flood or bacterial bloom, for example. Otherwise, 2 months is not long at all. I've had crabs down for half a year before. Digging will just cause the crab harm if it is still molting. Just leave it be. :) I know how nerve-wracking it is, bu...

Re: What do you use for lighting/heat
My 75g is heated with an Ultratherm UTH (under tank heater) that is along the back. It's as long as the tank and extends from the top of the surface of the substrate to the top of the tank. I have to use a thermostat to control the heat; before I set it up and before the crabs officially moved in, t...

Re: Bought a fogger but now what?
Hi I bought a fogger for my new crabitat I’m setting up to help regulate humidity and I read somewhere that I may need to add a false bottom? What is that? How do I do it? Is is necessary? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk False bottoms are sometimes used by people in order to easily watch for flo...

Re: Bought a fogger but now what?
I got one that sits outside of tank but the hose will go through the top is this ok? I assume I use distilled water in it? Should I keep it? I pulled up your link to the one you have and I’m confused on how the fog gets into the tank I believe the point of it is to raise the humidity in the area ar...

Re: Coconut fiber mixed with some repti bark?
It isn't a neccesary type of substrate and as mentioned, can make it difficult for the crabs to burrow. It would be more of an appearance thing for us to look at, but not all that great for them. You might be able to use some of it, maybe to sprinkle a little bit around the tank as decor, but I'd pe...
