They are in a six inch substrate of coconut shavings and sand mix. They are in a 10 gallon tank. They have fresh and salt water. The feeding has pretty much stopped as they have been missing in action. Just keep misting then...we live in southern United States so our house is at 70/71.

How long is too long?
My crabs have been hidden in the substrate for almost 12 weeks now? Are they molting or possibly dead? No smell really other than the food, do they hibernate?

I like to think that maybe young children were changing the enclosure and he escaped. It is a little less sad.

Crab burried shell and all
We got two new crab friends for our 1st hermit crab. The first night, one of the new ones buried himself shell and all. Is he molting or getting ready to molt? or just hiding?

I found a purple pincher (I think) on our neighborhood golf course. The course had been abandoned and gets mowed 4 times a year. He was trucking it away from the mowed area. I checked around but it is safe to say he was dumped. He is set up in a 10 gallon tank now and is the most active hermit crab ...
