Re: Two crabs dead in their pool with no shell!

Im sure a more experienced crabber will chime in but you should have 70% minimum humidity and youre shooting for 80%. Without the high humidity theyre pretty much just suffocating. Im sorry for your loss :(

Building a multiple tank stand soon, but I have weight questions

Ill be buying a 55 gallon tank around junish but dont want to get rid of my other tanks and came up with the idea of a multiple tank stand. Ideally I want to do the 55 on top and my 29 and 10 gallon next to each other of the next shelf down. My question comes to does anyone know the weight of their ...

Re: Rescued a large hermy questions about his exoskeleton

Im thinking he might be coming up on a molt soon. My humidity is 80% in the dryest warmest part of my tank but his last owner kept him in horrible conditions. Hopefully he'll go down sooner than later I plan to upgrade tanks around june so id prefer him to be up for the move

Re: Rescued a large hermy questions about his exoskeleton

Like Renroc said that sounds pretty normal. My biggest concern would be what his previous diet was. A long term diet of "hermit crab food" from pet stores is no good. The additives and preservatives can inhibit their ability to shed their exo and molt properly. During molts is when previous damages...

Rescued a large hermy questions about his exoskeleton

I rescued a large hermy from horrible conditions yesterday. Hes active and is eating fine just super shy. My question comes to his exoskeleton hes the only big guy I have so I dont have a frame of reference but his exo seems really dry. Is this normal? I dont expect him to be soft but his exo seems ...

Re: Hands-off or hands-on? I'd like to bring a thought to the table

I try not to handle mine too much because they're small mediums but when they get bigger I plan to try and hand feed my willing crabs by offering them treats. Right now I'm more focused of making sure they grow and are nice and healthy. I feel like being so small theyre a little more nervous with in...

Re: New tank temperatures

Ok good, I was thinking it would be ok but wanted to make sure with some experienced crabbers first.

So two days ago I upgraded from a 10 gallon to a 29 gallon. My temps were a little low but have balanced out. Right now on the opposite corner of where the heat pad is my thermometer ranges from 71-74 °F the one i have right above the pads reads 90°F. Im going to get another thermometer tonight and ...

Possible tunnel collapse what do I do now?

About 3 days ago my kids spilled milk everywhere and I had to move my tank to clean it. When I was putting it back I put it down not the softest i could have without thinking. I dont see any sunken spots really in the sand and my substrate holds form pretty well. Im hoping shes ok and mostly wonderi...
