Re: Tank Upgrade
I had to 2.5s in a 55 gallon for a while and it worked but I wouldn't recommend it. Depending on if you put them above or below to sub it will take up a lot of either climbing or digging space and limits how many crabs and what sizes you can have. It's also super hard to maintain cause you can't mov...

Big crab tiny shell
I have a crab, Thunder, who's been in the same shell for almost a year now (it was to small to begain with), and is so big for it he can't even get his eyes inside. He's and extra large in what I'd say is a medium shell. I have three extra large shells and 4 jumbo shells in there but he won't touch ...

Re: Buried Crab
Probably molting. I've noticed the first molt is normally longer than most. I'd get worried if it were 3 or 4 months for a smaller crab but I have seen crabs down for longer and come up fine.

Looking for safe plants list
I haven't been very active here in almost a year now but I know there used to be some sort of list I would use that had all the safe and unsafe species of plants for hermit crabs, does anyone know where I can find that?

Re: How necessary is 3-5 shells per crab?
I don't go per crab, but by size of crab. So 3 to 5 shells for small crabs, 3 to 5 for medium crabs, etc. They need valid options to change into, but you don't have to go crazy buying stuff and have a dozen shells for three same sized crabs unless you want to. The more valid options you have the le...

Molting tunnel colasped
I can guarantee everything is exactly to the care guides on here so I'm skipping the question part. Please read this tread to get background: https://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=125715 Basicly I needed to move my large tank and there was one small crab that had been down...

Re: Small crab been down a while
I'd hate to move a fully loaded hermit crab setup for fear of the crab's molting space collapsing on them. I assume the others have been placed in their temporary shelter for moving? Yeah, the others are isolated and the tank is big so we have to empty it before moving, that's why I need the crab o...

Re: Small crab been down a while
Tank is 55 gallons with a foot of substrate so it needs to be emptied.myllkti wrote:How big is your tank? Digging up a molting crab is almost never good so if it is a small enough tank maybe you could move it by recruiting one or two friends to help carry.

Superworm in substrate
A few weeks ago I added some wood from my superworm breeding tank into the crab tank and you can see where this is going... I didn't clean it well enough and now I have a large amount of superworm in the sand living in the crab tank. I have a large tank with over a foot of sand and at least 3-4 molt...

Re: Petsmart
For the first 3 years I kept crabs everything I bought was there so, yes, everything you need is there its just 3x as expensive as it needs to be. Just don't get anything marketed for hermit crabs.
