Re: Is this normal?
That’s fairly normal, it sounds like he’s probably just de-stressing in the moss cup. Alternatively, he might have decided to molt in there, which isn’t ideal but isn’t detrimental. Crabs sometimes decide to just molt in the moss pit if they feel safe! If the cup doesn’t have any drainage I would st...

Hand Feeding Barry the Crab (PP)
Thought you guys might like to see this cute fella! I’m trying to teach them that I won’t murder them every time I walk by the tank. This is just a bit of dried minnow, which he left on the ground a minute later to get back on his wheel.

Re: Possible Mating/Guarding Behaviour? (Video inside!)
I think you may be right! I haven’t seen it repeated since. The persistence of Barry had me a little suspicious, as they usually threaten each other and then run. Somehow the shell two sizes too large with a crab already in it looks better than the other shells that are exactly the same but better f...

Possible Mating/Guarding Behaviour? (Video inside!)
Hi everyone! I’ve had these two crabs for about a year now, and this is the first I’m seeing behaviour like this. We’ve had a few days of rain this week, and I woke up this morning to what seems like Barry chasing around Rambo my other crab, and attempting to mount him. Barry is about half the size ...

Re: Disturbed and came up too early?
Just a quick update, Barry is back to fully active! I'm thinking he just needed a couple weeks to harden up and reacclimate to the hustle and bustle of above-ground living. His color is looking a lot better as well!

Re: Disturbed and came up too early?
I set the Wyze camera up to look directly at him, so I can see that he’s definitely moving around (like tossing and turning in bed) snacking on moss and drinking water. Though he still doesn’t seem interested in the food. I’ll reply with an update once he’s fully active again!

Re: Disturbed and came up too early?
Good suggestion! I’ve put some eggshells, powdered egg yolk, and honey near him. Hopefully that entices him! I guess there’s not much else I can really do. Thanks for the help!

Re: Disturbed and came up too early?
That was something I'd considered, but Rambo shifted a bunch of dirt around near Barry's molt chamber and I found a piece of Barry's large pincher near the surface. I'm almost certain he hasn't completely finished molting/hardening up, but his condition hasn't seemed to improve since he came up, tho...

Re: Disturbed and came up too early?
What worries me is this crab is normally very active, and he's been stuck in the same spot / position for a week now. It's a huge change in behaviour.

Disturbed and came up too early?
So I’ve had two crabs for about a year now, and other than a dropped claw which was regrown on next moult, I’ve had them both successfully moult about three times. I had a crab (Barry) go down mid December and come back about 35 days later. I log their moult duration, and this seemed to be a slightl...

How often do you redecorate your tank?
I just upgraded my crabitat from a 10g to a 20g, and the crabs are loving it! All this extra activity got me thinking, maybe I should be rearranging/redecorating my tank more often.
What do you guys think? How often do you redecorate your crabitat?

Harmful Mites? (Video attached)
I noticed a few white mites on the shell of one of my crabs. They’re about the same size as a grain of sand, and mostly moving around on the outside of his shell. I have noticed them moving around on the soil as well. The link is a time-lapse taken over 5 minutes where you can see a white mite movin...

Re: Shell Evacuation and possible lethargy
Thanks for your advice Butterflies! I’d like to say I’ve been following your crab breeding threads, and I’m so impressed by your efforts! I think the main issue in the tank at this point is the lack of heat. My UTHs are on the back, but I’m looking into buying a larger replacement for the second sma...

Re: Shell Evacuation and possible lethargy
Thanks for the advice! I should have been more specific, the substrate is for the most part 6” deep, but I’ve made a bit of a gradient in a small area to dissuade digging around the water pools. (I use instant ocean for the SW pool btw) I’ll take a look at replacing the UTHs for a better brand, I wa...

Shell Evacuation and possible lethargy
Hi Everyone, Thanks so much for reading! I have a crab that evacuated her shell this morning, and while she’s back in now I just wanted to get some further advice! All the details are at the bottom. 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? 70:30 Eco earth:play sand. It’s ab...
