Shell jacking or mating?
Hi all, I hope the file works but basically I saw one of my hermits gently rocking the shell of another. I read that if its a gentle rock it could be mating behaviour but also rocking can be a sign of shell jacking. No claws were involved just a slow rock for 20-30 seconds or so then stopped and bot...

Just checking heat and humidity ok.
Hey all, I have owned 2 of my crabs for 2.5 months and have since gotten another 5 (all 7 are currently down :| ) anyway i started poorly like most, being a first time crabber and had many issues with heat and humidity so want some feedback on current readings as i get overly worried about it someti...

Re: Coir peat
So long as it's not contamination from something else, it's fine to use. When cocofiber is stored moist, it can easily grow mold on the surface. Just getting it aired out should be enough to prevent more growth, but removing the obvious spots wouldn't be a bad idea. Thank you, i will air it out and...

Coir peat
Hi guys just wanted to double check that my coir peat (used in Australia instead of ee) was still ok to use. My tank currently has 7.5 inches of substrate coir peat sand mix. For future top ups would the peat be ok? There are white spots in it after sitting outside in bag for 3 weeks and I can't rem...

Re: Worm castings
Xeno and I started making poop dishes. We add all the poops in them and also add crab and lobster exo, and other calcium's. If we change all their foods out at the same time the poop dish is usually the first to be explored. They will go after the poop over shrimp, mussels, fruits, and veggies! Cra...

Worm castings
Hey I just got a bag of worm castings from a local worm farmer. Is there anything i should do with it first to make it safe for the hermits or is it ok to give straight from the bag?

Re: Shell grit
Hi, if you're after calcium you can sprinkle around crushed eggshells, lobster shells, crabs shells... they like to forage too, like in the wild. You can also buy cuttlebones in the bird section of the pet store, just stick it in the sand. Not sure if this was mentioned to you or not. :) Thank you ...

Shell grit
Hey guys sorry for all the questions (on here and Facebook). I have a new 75 gallon that i really want to set up right the first time. I was looking at adding amendments to the substrate (i know not everyone adds but i wanted to give it a go) but its almost impossible to find things like crushed oys...

Re: Lighting
If it fits inside the tank (may be a struggle, unless yoy get a smaller unit) could try zip-tying the ballast onto the glass braces. I've done similar, works a treat! :) Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk Great to know someone else has done similar was starting to wonder if it would work [emoji39...

Re: Lighting question
In my 20g long I've used a day basking bulb (mainly for heat, but helps with viewing), but for the 75g I plan on using a UVB strip along with just a regular fluorescent light, for added viewing, since I have a UTH along the back of that. Some people simply rely on the natural room light, so as long...

Re: Lighting
I don’t think silicone would be durable enough to hold up the fixture, is there any way you can tie it to the fixed piece of glass? Rimless glass tanks seem like a challenge in some areas. That was my first thought, I would need to experiment to see what works best. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapa...

Re: Lighting
Not sure if it's that visible but there is a section of fixed glass where the top glass lid sits on that I was hoping I could find a way to attach the light, a hard one i know [emoji28] https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200418/a46b144b1901e7a5eeeb815dd826ace3.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20...

hey guys i am setting up a new 4 foot (78 gallon) tank all glass with glass lid (very excited for the upgrade). I wanted to get a florescent under cabinet fixture that i can put in a UVB fluorescent tube (either T8 5.0 or 10.0 depending on how far light is from substrate). My question is how do you ...

Re: Pictures For Tanks!
I only have 2 crabs who are currently hiding but I'm quite proud of the tank set up. I have had to chop and change and add to both substrate and items in tank such as moss to keep humidity stable, it's gotten to the point where family has called me obsessed for the amount of change and care I've put...
