Re: Crabby death:/
I follow the food guide you guys have. Protein is either chicken, salmon, tuna, or dried shrimp meant for turtles. Temp isn't typically 90, more of a 85. I have noticed the top of the soil has been dry but the rest is moist. I have extra shells (maybe 5 or 6) and one of mine needs to switch but refu...

Crabby death:/
Woke up to my PP crab dead this morning on the surface. Stunk and didnt react to touch so 100%sure. I believe a different crab (had 3) cannibalized him as he has a claw pulled off and a leg or two missing. When I slipped him out of his shell he didn't seem emaciated and didnt see anything on gills. ...

Currently I'm using the hood lighting my father used for his fish tank, is that enough to provide the biological calcium bu...

Crabby contemplation
I got a new pp to try and dither the two others that have been under the surface for quiet some time. I'll let you guys if that works lol. But my question about him is he does maybe two seconds of activity and then pauses for five seconds, not even moving his antennae, and then two seconds of activi...

Moving hermies to new crabitat
Hi everyone I've had my crabs for about 3 weeks now and already want to move them into a bigger tank lol. I have two in a 10 gallon but it feels way too cramped to me. My justification for moving to a 20 gallon is that I can give them more fake plants, something to climb on, hide, ect. I want to giv...

Re: College grad with gifted crabs
Hi, Shiwe! Welcome to the HCA. 1) It could be either/or, which is why having the deep substrate is important. 2) No, burying them can suffocate them. When they dig they push soil out and around, creating small burrows with air pockets. We can't replicate that by ourselves. 3) Yes, you'll want a sal...

College grad with gifted crabs
Hi! I got hermit crabs as a grad gift (named Congo and Rats...get it?) and already have a million questions and worries. My set up: 10 gallon with 2 crabs (dont know species, whatever petsmart sells (?)). 6 inches of eco earth and small amount of calci sand mixed in. Fresh water bowl, Salt water bow...
