Post-molt behavior
Hi all, I'm curious - how do your crabs act after molting? My biggest crab just came up after a good long molt and for the first time, she is above ground all by herself (all the others coincidentally are under). Since I know she's the only crab up, I can tell that she is not really interested in ea...

Re: Fingers crossed that my crabs are okay!
I've been wondering about the crabbies and other pets in these storm-affected areas. I will cross my fingers with you that yours are okay!! And what a nice super to look after them for you.

Looking for advice on upgrading my tank
Hi! I'm looking for advice on upgrading my tank. We've had our three hermits happily and healthily living in a 20 gallon tank. This has given me plenty of time to imagine more ways I could improve their living space, and now I am purchasing a 30 gallon tank for them to give them more room and more a...

Caught my crab changing shells...
We added a bunch of new shells that they got in their Christmas stocking. Rosy wasted no time choosing her favorite! We caught it on video.

Can I see your water pools?
I am redoing our water pools and I would love to see photos of how you have constructed yours! Both fresh and salt water, ladders, rocks, etc.
If you have a photo, would you post it here? It would help me decide how to change ours up!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Is it safe to add more sand/substrate with crabs down?
Thank you! I will be very cautious and maybe only add a small layer over a few days. I had been meaning to add more before they went down - we had started out at five-six inches but as they started living in the tank it seemed like I needed to add more. They're small crabs so I think they have enoug...

Is it safe to add more sand/substrate with crabs down?
I've got two crabs under right now (only for 1-2 weeks so far) and a third that is getting ready to go down (eating a lot, especially cuttlebone and greensand). I had been planning to add more sand to their substrate and mix it in well, but that's obviously not an option right now. Is it safe to add...

Re: Salt Water Pools
I was also wanting to switch to Instant Ocean... is it better to get the large box pictured above? I also saw this version and wondered about it.

Re: New to molting - need reassurance!
Thank you both... It's good to hear that everyone worries about this! I think I'll feel a lot better when they come from this first time and I can see that everything worked out... It's so so hard to wait and not see/hear from them though!

New to molting - need reassurance!
Hi! We are pretty new to hermit crab ownership. We have three crabbies and two are now under. They are both medium-sized crabs, maybe the size of a quarter? All three crabs have seemed pretty healthy - I've observed all of them happily feasting and climbing, and two of them have been switching shell...

Re: Looking for thermostat recommendations
Thank you! The Herpstat is a little out of my price range. but the I-Power one is the exact one I had my eye on, so I'll start with that for now. Thanks for the feedback!

Looking for thermostat recommendations
I'd love to hear of any thermostat recommendations out there! I have three heat mats of various sizes on the back/side of our tank. I check them and can turn them on/off on a daily basis to get the right temperature, depending on the ambient temperature of the room (and if the AC is on, etc.). I wou...
