Re: Is this a Bacteria Bloom in my Substrate?
No, that's just some algae growing along the side where it gets light. It should be self limiting. You shouldn't have to worry about it, it won't harm the crabs. I have a bit growing along the front of my tank right now for the first time in almost 12 years of having them! That’s a relief! The side...

Is this a Bacteria Bloom in my Substrate?
I have a 75 gallon tank with an exo terra topper and 2.5 gal water pools. I moved a few months back so when setting up the tank I used 5 bags of sand from Lowes and 3 bricks of eco earth mixed together for their substrate. I’ve noticed this green stuff growing in the substrate on one side of the tan...

Moving with Hermit Crabs
In around a month or two I’ll be moving to a different state. It’s a 12 hour drive. My hermit crabs are currently in a 36x18x18 tank. I have a 20 long and a 10 gallon that can fit in my car for transportation. I’ve only seen one hermit crab on the surface recently, the rest I’m guessing are digging ...

Thank you! Reading that puts me at ease!curlysister wrote:Looks to me like he/ she is cleaning out their shell. Or pooping!
Either way, don't think it looks like anything concerning.
I love how clean your tank is, and how well you can see your crab - he/ she is very cute!

Re: Crab shaking their shell
It looks like your hermit crab is laying eggs. Check the area the crab did that at. The eggs will look like caviar. Here is a video of a land hermit crab laying eggs. https://youtu.be/C49NexWTIFM Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Not seeing anything in the substrate where it happened. You think my...

Crab shaking their shell
My hermit crab was climbing the corner of their tank, then fell back and started shaking their shell. Like quickly going in the shell and back out but not all the way. I watched some more and saw a small white bug ( I think a mite ) go into my crabs shell. My hermit crab was by the food. I looked at...

Re: Climbing Wood Growing Mold
I have epic mold issues with my enclosures. I use springtails with my other animals - which eat actual mold and mold spores, and I salt boil items for the crabs. When I boil, I'll use a good pound or two of plain cooking salt for a stock pot of water. If things get moldy usually I just haven't used...

I boiled the wood in salted water! What do I do if the mold comes back?curlysister wrote:Don't panic, the mold won't have harmed your crabs at all.
To help prevent mold, you can soak or boil the wood in heavily salted water to help prevent mold.

Climbing Wood Growing Mold
I recently got pieces of sandblasted grape vine wood for my hermit crabs. I baked all the pieces before placing them in the tank, the wood has many branches for my hermit crabs to climb on, but the section of wood that’s touching the substrate started growing mold. I have a piece of cholla wood that...

CrabbyKateCrabShack on Etsy has nice shells, but her account is currently on vacation.
HappyCrabby on Etsy also has good shells.

Heat Pads and Suction Cups
I’m needing to put another heat pad on the side on my tank but I have a lot of suction cups on the side I’d like to put it. Is the heat from a heat pad going to mess with the suction cups from sticking to the side?
