Fair enough, sounds like daily food changes and rollie pollies are the way to go :)

Re: Crazy stupid grain/food mite population explosion! Help!

But if I am trying to get rid of mites getting predatory mites just gets rid of one kind of mites but gives me another kind. A little bit! The preds won't boom nearly as much population-wise, and they'll just hang around the food dishes and such where they're most likely to find the grain mit...

Re: Crazy stupid grain/food mite population explosion! Help!

I can't and won't get predatory mites does anyone know a way to get rid of mites forever? Anyone? Lil bugs and stuff are definitely something that we gotta deal with having a subtropical tank pet. For me, in the past rather than predatory mites, I've changed food daily, and introduced rollie pollie...

Re: Crazy stupid grain/food mite population explosion! Help!

Update for others dealing with the same issue... TLDR, predatory mites are the way to go. I ordered some up, got em, and dumped like a quarter of the container into my tank in various places. Also switched the food out fresh at that time. Since then, I haven't touched anything, and in the last coupl...

Moldy Moss

Hi all. We just got a new 65 Gal tank and we've now got more room than we've ever had so I'm looking to try some cool stuff. In the past, I've tried moss pits several times. But every time, they get quite moldy after a week or so, and I've never figured out why or how to prevent it. Any advice? Chan...

Re: Loneliness chirping?

Chirping can also be a form of communication. My Es chirp even when nothing is going on. I personally think they know the others are there. One of the biggest mistakes crab owners make is purchasing more crabs when some of their crabbies are down. It is easy for tanks to become overcrowded that way...

Conditions are all great, plenty of food, good humidity, heat, etc. I'm hoping he's just being a sad lil loner haha

Loneliness chirping?

My eldest crab, Ford, has been chirping every now and then recently, which is odd considering everyone else is underground. He has no dominance to sort out, is it possible he's just chirping because he's lonely and bored?

Faux Plants

Just did a large upgrade to my tank. Used a few fake plants, all totally plastic. Is there anything I should be worried about? Should I sanitize them? Or is that even necessary? They of course give off a bit of a plastic-y smell all together, is that alright?
