Then how would you suggest food be stored so that it does not mold?Hermielover121 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 9:09 pmBecause of the humidity any food you put in will mold and you will have to change it out in 24-48 hours. Even if it is completely dry it’ll mold sooner or later.

Re: Water dish options
How about just using smaller fish tanks? IMO even critter keepers and glass tanks work nicely

Advanced Saltwater Pools
I was looking at a couple more advanced builds on this forum and I saw some great saltwater pools with protein skimmers, reef sand, liverock etc. I was wondering what are the basics to get started(assuming no marine invertebrates are being kept inside), and the minimum size for such a pool

Re: Egg Shells
I follow a reptile calcium powder tutorial on youtube. Basically, eggshells are boiled for 10 minutes and then left to air dry or be baked before crushing and given to crabs. It's really simple and cheap and my crabs seem to enjoy it!

Re: eyes messed up?
Hi, I haven't had much experience with injured or sick crabs so I would wait for someone more experienced to comment on that. However, I do want to raise a few points on your care that I think can be improved. 1) Hermit crab sand should NOT be used as it clumps together and just is not suitable as s...

Re: Dried Insects Smell Off
It's a locally produced brand though the worms were from Hikari. No added ingredients and it has not reached its expiration date. No mold but the insects are covered in more powder that I assume is the result of some insects being crushed

Dried Insects Smell Off
So I bought some dried crickets and grasshoppers for my crabs a while back and I noticed today that they have been emitting a very sharp, almost pesticide like smell? The same thing used to happen to tubifex worm cubes I would buy for my fish. Is this normal or something to be concerned about? (I do...

IMO, just to be safe I would purchase the Instant Ocean. It is said that anything sold specifically for hermit crabs are probably not going to b good for them.

Re: Lost both pinchers!
I just read the other replies that u got on your other thread and I'm really glad Peg Leg has started eating!!! I think you have already been informed but it is highly not recommended to use saltwater for hermit crabs as it does not have the minerals they need. Small portion of people use it with no...

Re: Lost both pinchers!
Not sure if u have already, but you can check http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=119273 which is the basic care guide on this forum. As for saltwater, do not use table salt or aquarium salt, you have to use marine salt meant for marine fish and this is compulsory in hermit ...

Re: Glass tank cover...
I think the reason your humidity is down is not because of your lid but your lamp. Heat lamps are known to zap humidity out of tanks and are not recommended. Instead, people will buy UTH ( under the tank heater) and put them on the side of the tank above the substrate line(not the bottom)
