Re: My hermitcrab terrarium is finally (mostly) done!
I catch myself just standing in front of the terrarium for 10-15 minutes at times, just looking at everything lol. Definitely a great addition to the livingroom!

Re: My hermitcrab terrarium is finally (mostly) done!
I ordered them in a plant nursery, they're basically intended to wrap around the pot of plants during winter to keep frost off them, and I just thought: why not use them as background? Not too expensive and in the perfect size, why not. I ordered 45cm x 10m and 25cmx5m for overall about 50€, I still...

Re: My hermitcrab terrarium is finally (mostly) done!
It's treated, water resistant particle board covered in a thick layer of paint to protect further from moisture, covered in a 1mm thick pondliner, I am honestly not too worried about it. The staples were a concern for me as well, but I've not used them in/near the soil area so there is only little m...

My hermitcrab terrarium is finally (mostly) done!
Hey y'all, it's been a good while since I posted here as I just didn't have anything to post. In the meantime I moved, decided to build a bigger crabitat and did just that! Given that I already posted it on the subreddit I thought y'all might enjoy it as well! First off: External dimensions are 200x...

Re: One of my strawberries and a better look in the freshwater pool!
Love it! Ok I’m going to ask a question. Shocker right? What do you have for sub in your aquarium? Dustins fish tanks used organic potting soil. Or you can go more high tech with ADU or whatever James Findley sales. You can use whatever substrate you like in your freshwater! aquarium. I used some d...

Re: One of my strawberries and a better look in the freshwater pool!
I got all my hermitcrabs from Interaquaristik.de, they ship animals only to Germany/Austria. Since they aren't popular pets in Germany there aren't really any up for adoption so I got them from a reseller. Not a single painted shell and they ship them well insulated and with moist moss! (on my bigge...

One of my strawberries and a better look in the freshwater pool!
Caught one of my strawberries climbing around the tank again! He (and many other crabs) greatly appreciate the grapevine to climb on! https://i.imgur.com/Ogcc0Fi.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eHeYhb3.jpg And I did a waterchange on the freshwater pool, cleaned off all the dust algae on the glass and darn, ...

Re: I've been told I should post my crabs here!
Time to answer questions! Temperature: 22-26°C / 71-79°F depending on where you measure (the closer to the heatlamp the warmer, in it's proximity on the background there are actually about 33-35°C/ 91-95°F, though only on a small spot) Humidity: 70-99% (again depending on where you measure) Due to t...

Re: I've been told I should post my crabs here!
Thank you very much! Feel free to ask all the questions you have! And luckily for you I did document the build (somewhat), at least good enough to trace back my steps! https://imgur.com/a/xGkK0zs I even have a quick gallery of the plantgrowth (which is a LOT): https://imgur.com/a/NfNu7jq On the next...

Re: I've been told I should post my crabs here!
Thank you very much! OSB is widely used here to build our own terrariums, though for anything tropical it is usually not recommended, that's why I painted it on both inside and outside with outdoor paint (with the blue angel of course, so no chemicals leaching out) and put the substrate in a box wit...

Re: I've been told I should post my crabs here!
Since you asked about whether or not they swim, here's the Lila talking a swim as I mentioned above.
Edit: don't mind the diatom algae, since I am not using a protein skimmer (yet) nutrients build up and well, algae blooms...

Re: I've been told I should post my crabs here!
Yeah that's what I learned as well, so Spizam and I figured that they were probably Lilas. I don't mind as they are still nicely purple lol. They were super pale when I got them, now that the first has molted he is getting nice and purple. Can't wait for the other to be done (2 months underground no...

Re: I've been told I should post my crabs here!
I don't know how to reply to each one yet (maybe I can't?) so: Thank you very much! Yes, the space in the middle is all substrate (30+cm/12+inches) of cocofiber/ecoearth/sand mix topped off with eco earth because it looks nicer, there is a mesh with clayballs underneath all that as drainagein case I...

Re: I've been told I should post my crabs here!
Wow! So impressive, everythings so beautiful, crabs included! You must have a lot of experience in building tanks, no? Do you have any more pics of deeper in the tank, or close ups of what all you've put into it? I love that the 2 unidentified crabs are in shells that match them, how'd you make tha...
