Re: Another Recipie Highwires Seafood Buffet
I am thinking of doing a slight variant of this and calling it Mr J's Spicy Gumbo (or Mr J's Fiery Surprise), where instead of quinoa I use rolled oats and instead of spirulina I use powdered Carolina Reaper pepper, I am also thinkign of replacing the crushed eggshell with either Blackberry Powder o...

Re: Another Recipie Highwires Seafood Buffet
I do give them whole occasionally, but have noticed that when I break the mealworm, cricket and river shrimp up into smaller the crabs seem to eat it more then the whole. I also don't grind it into a fine powder, I grind it up into a course mix, that while there is some fine powder it is mostly chun...

First Successful Molt
Well I have had my fist successful molt. Mr. J has been under since I set the 29 gallon tank up on and changing out of the nasty painted shell back on Sept 2. Seen him up last night and ended up having him crawl onto my hand, then looking at him closer he had nice sharp pointy hairy legs. Where he d...

Re: Any feeding tips? Favorite recipes?
My crabs love the foods I have ordered from The Hermit Crab Patch (THCP), along with the one recipe I threw together that I call Taggart's Burgoo. I have also made another recipe using green seaweed (Nori), bloodworms, THCP Oyster shell supplement, spirulina, river shrimp, mealworms, and quinoa that...

Re: Dehydrator
Did you save the seeds from the peppers? I just asked a question about crabs being able to eat red bell pepper seeds (they can). I gave them some a couple of nights ago and they loved them, more than the pepper powder lol. Sorry the honey didn't work out. You could always add some to the powder and...

Re: Dehydrator
Sweet! My free one is probably about 10 yrs old, so no timer or temp settings, just on and off lol. Let me know how it works out! [emoji16] Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk Have one like that too, though if I had to hazard a guess I would say its more like 20 years or so old. Tried dehyd...

Re: Dehydrator
Just got me a new dehydrator, a 750 watt one with digital temp and digital timer. Its the Cabela's Harvester Pro 5 tier Digital Dehydrator. Picked up two additional trays for it along with a set of 4 fruit roll trays and a set of 4 mesh drying screens. Right now I have Red Raspberry puree, Blackberr...

Re: I think I found a hit recipe
The paste using the mix with coconut oil and honey was also a hit last night. Decided to check on the Crabitat last night around 1am and had both Taggart and Mimzi out. It was a pleasant surprise seeing Mimzi as when I put Tawas, Mr. J, Highwire and Mimzi in the tank, Mimzi almost immediately burrow...

I think I found a hit recipe
I think I found a recipe that is a hit, well at least with the one Hermie that I know is coming up at night. Put about a 1/2 teaspoon down last night and this morning it was gone. Tonight I am trying the recipe with Coconut Oil and Honey added to a paste like consistency Right now I am calling it Ta...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing
For my Crabbies its a 1/4tsp of HCP Red White and Blueberries, with some boiled and ground up eggshell in one scallop shell that I use for their food, and in another is a 1/4tsp of HCP Surf N Turf, for both did add just a tiny bit of the HCP Mineral Supplement to them. Right now I only have one crab...

Re: Moss From Outside
I would recommend something like zoomed terrarium moss, as you don't know with 100% certainty that the moss from the backyard hasn't been exposed to pesticides. Depending on where you live certain communities do spray for mosquito control and the pesticides do travel a over a nice area due to wind a...

Re: Food Storage ideas
That kind of rubber gasket flip lid doesn't work so well for keeping moisture out. I originally tried to organize my spice drawer with them, and within a couple months most were ruined due to moisture getting in. Was so ticked over the cost of the jars, and the cost of the spices! I have an order f...

Re: New crabber in the Flint, MI area
Initially was using the ZooMed Hermit Crab Saltwater Conditioner, when I bought the 29g tank, I also picked up a box of Instant Ocean. Been using that for their salt water since. The ZooMed Hermit Crab Salt water Conditioner was bought before finding out that it didnt supply everythign that crabs ne...
