Whirlpool (now named after the washing machine brand... lol... ) is still going well. Running around like a mad thing, no sign of damage.
Guess it's a tough little bugger.

Re: Crab went through the washing machine!
When they escape they usually do try to find the most humid places, usually bathrooms. Not rly trying to be funny but I guess he found the best humid spot. Hope the little guy makes a full recovery. Edit to add: try to increase the proteins you give them such as dried one ingredient dog treats like...

Re: Crab went through the washing machine!
This one isn't Trogdor, it's one that Trogdor kept digging up. I haven't named any of the others, because they haven't really told me what their name should be yet. I'll wash the crabby again when I get home from work. It seems to be alright... though earlier I had a guilty giggle session imagining ...

Crab went through the washing machine!
I'm not sure yet if this is an "emergency", and it doesn't really have to do with the living conditions. I had a crab in a solitary "moulting tank" as my new very large "Trogdor The Hermanator" was determined to unbury every crab possible. I thought it had gone down to moult - no activity on the sur...

"No shell will do!"
I have a crabby (1 of 7) I've had for 4 months now, and the other day I added a new crab to the tank (now 8 total... no more! I swear!) so I'd have something that fit into my extra large (relatively speaking) shells that I had lying around. I thought the 4 month crabby might have been bullied, when ...

Re: Condensation on glass
I got a magnetic fishtank cleaner, and use the felted side inside the tank to wipe any condensation away when I want to see inside. Just don't go wild dragging it about, as it has increased friction due to there being no water. Just move it slowly, and you'll get the technique right. https://uploads...

Re: Re-New to Crabbing!
I was worried about them cracking their shells landing on hard surfaces... They don't seem to have problems with it though. One of my big ones landed in the salt water, and kept walking around and around looking for the ramp up, but instead kept walking right past it. With the new greenery, they're ...

Re: Re-New to Crabbing!
It's been 4 months since I got my crabs, and they're all going..... crabbily? They seem to spend 90% of their time doing laps around the outer edge of the tank. It's like they've made themselves a "beaten path" so to speak. Today I decided the crabitat was looking a bit tatty, since they ate most of...

Re: Aquarium fertiliser
A mathematically inclined friend pointed out that i can put 5mL into 2.5L, then take 25mL of that and put it into 2.5L to get the correct concentration.
That's a much more manageable amount.

Aquarium fertiliser
I got some aquarium fertiliser to fertilise the plants in my crabitat. The problem is the mixing... The directions say 5mL to 250L water. This is pretty inconvenient, since I just need a little to water the plants with. I assume there's a way to dilute it in a certain amount of water, and then use t...

Re: Re-New to Crabbing!
Do they know not to let go when they're up high? I finally have 2 crabs out and about, and this one has decided to go for the highest point in the tank! I'm worried about it falling if it decides to hide in it's shell suddenly...

Re: Re-New to Crabbing!
I found a bag of shells at a cheapie store, but they were all the same colour... I'm hoping they will like at least some of the new shells so i can start to tell them apart.CrabbyLover77 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 8:07 pmOnce you see how happy your crabs are with the new shells, you'll be excited about them too lol!

Re: Re-New to Crabbing!
One finally came up yesterday morning! I heard clicking against the tank, so I put some food in... then just after I went to bed, another came up... but it's gone down again now. They both sampled a couple of bits of food, but didn't seem very hungry. I use hermit crab salt and mix it with dechlorin...

Re-New to Crabbing!
We had a couple of crabs when I was a kid, so I'm not exactly completely brand new... but this is my first time owning them as an adult, so I guess that counts. I live in QLD, Australia. It's currently early spring, so the weather is cool, but not cold. I got 5 middle size (approx 2 inch) crabs mid-...
