Re: I think I collapsed a tunnel on a molting crab
Yeah, I know. I was planning on adding more. As I said, I’m new to this so I redid my habitat and planned to add another few inches, but my crab buried himself and I had read adding too much on top could collapse their tunnel so I was waiting until he came up.

Re: I think I collapsed a tunnel on a molting crab
Update: he is slowly digging himself down into the sand in the separate container. He’s definitely a pale color, the tip of his legs look almost white. He is moving though. I’m pulling sand for his super age place real quick i found his old “skin” so apparently he has already molted. Do I leave him ...

Re: Please clarify: why bake/rinse sand?
Thank you for the information! I do have another small question. I’m pretty sure I used quikrete al purpose sand last time I got sand and it’s a brownish tan color with little tiny pebbles and such but this bag is more red and much more fine. Any idea why that would be? I’m just curious really.

New cholla wood - do I clean?
About 2 years ago, I bought some cholla wood. I’ve never rinsed it or cleaned it or anything. It says on the talk pesticide free, pet safe. Do I need to do anything before using it in my hermits crabitat?
Also, I have a little coconut hut that I believe is real coconut. Is there a way to clean that?

Please clarify: why bake/rinse sand?
Hello! I apologize if this is a silly question! I’m new to much of this, and bought some more sand to add to my tank. I bought the all purpose Quikrete sand which was listed as find in the substrate info page. However it talks about possibly rinsing it. I’ve also seen things about baking new sand. C...

Re: Salt water conditioner?
Thank you! I had been using the bottled salt water, but read that it can be unsafe and is not expensive so I want to make the switch. I didn’t realize that you condition the water and then add the salt. Thank you for the links! I feel like there’s so much to learn I’m a tad overwhelmed!

Salt water conditioner?
Hello! I’ve had my hermies for almost 2 years now, but came across this website and realized I have A LOT to learn, and am lucky my hermits have done well so far. I’m trying to figure out what conditioners are okay. Before seeing this forum I bought Topfin water conditioner for the fresh water and T...
