Alright, thank you so much for this. Such an important thing to be aware ofJoeHermits wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 1:07 pmIt can, yes. Use your best judgement when collecting from water bodies. Usually the farther from humans the better.

Most disgusting thing you've ever fed your crabs?
Hey there! I'm just wondering what sort of horrible things this community has tried to tempt their crabs with. Whether it was only nasty when you removed it from the tank or if it was horrific even before you put it into their dishes, I'd love to hear about it. Bonus points if your crabs absolutely ...

Re: Hermit crabs don't like fresh food
The only food I've actually witnessed one or two of my PPs eating is raw honey. Definitely evidence of them eating other stuff like popcorn, egg shell, bell pepper, meats, freeze dried shrimp and meal worms. When I say evidence, it's more or less the food getting moved around a bit and winding up w...

Re: Are Aussie seagrasses safe?
Oh wow. Thank you for that heads up. Would mangrove leaves and wood also potentially pose a risk?JoeHermits wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 8:52 amThey’re nutritionally okay, but be warned that they will absorb any contaminates in the area, including microplastics, mercury, and chemical waste.

Re: Are Aussie seagrasses safe?
sorry.. i don't have advice on the food... i just wanted to say i'm jealous that you live where you can just stroll over to the beach to pick up some grass! More like a half hour drive lol, but I understand what you mean. It is very fortunate that I live so relatively close to the natural habitat o...

Are Aussie seagrasses safe?
Hey there! I keep Aussies and I'm trying my best to find things they actually want to eat. I collected some seagrass that was washed up at the local beach the other day. Are most seagrasses safe to feed or would it be better to not risk it? Is there a better alternate sea plant to feed them? Please ...

Re: Hermit crabs don't like fresh food
Sorry for only just getting back to everyone!! I really appreciate everyone taking the time to help out. So far I've noticed that they like leaves and their cuttlebone as well. They seem to love cooked meat too, especially chicken. And of course, their dried food. I'll just keep feeding different va...

Hermit crabs don't like fresh food
Hey all! I've been having some issues with my crabs. They don't seem to like fresh foods like kiwi, grapes, avo, apple, bacon and sardines, or anything like that! They however LOVE popcorn (home-made, popped with coconut oil, none left by the time I change their food out), raisins, powder food and m...

Re: Hermit crab chop
Hey there! Unfortunately, none of them seem to like it very much. Maybe I'm just mixing the wrong things together, but idk.Maybe they're just picky. I'll try a different recipe another time

Re: Discolouration on hermit crab limbs
I started out with fish, and the first thing aquatic vets do when there is weird trouble is flush it out with as much new water as possible. I've always applied that to the crabs and my other critters and it's brought good results. This really helped put me at ease --- Thank you for that. I'll reme...

Re: Discolouration on hermit crab limbs
I don't like this. I've been staring at this since you posted it trying to figure out if it's worth the scare to say it could be something infectious. My suggestion would be a full substrate change out, and then monitoring. With luck it goes away the next time they molt. I've had very similar but n...

Re: Discolouration on hermit crab limbs
[Following. Could it be something introduced by the most recent addition?] The newest guy had no such markings, from memory, and burrowed right away. Did not even see the other crabs. TBN and Knoppie, the one who has it the worst, came from the same place. I'm thinking Knoppie brought the disease h...

Re: Discolouration on hermit crab limbs
So, while not the clearest, managed to get some photos of Knoppie, who has the discolouration the worst. https://i.imgur.com/PLS7W6f.jpeg Here are the spots on his claws. https://i.imgur.com/puvxpx8.jpeg Here is the only leg on his left side, with the worst of the discolouration. It looks grayish. I...
