Re: Good source for shells?
I see no reason why it wouldn’t be fine, i would just suggest looking into the sight a bit more to make sure there are no reviews stating that the shells came damaged. The cheapness of it is likely coming from the fact that you aren’t as much picking the size shells you need, so just double check th...

Re: How much longer??
It can be anywhere from a month for teenies to a year for larger crabs. Personally my crab that’s a bit smaller than a golfball ended up taking about 2-3 months (I may or may not have lost track [emoji28]). No matter what don’t go looking for them! As long as there’s no death smell and if it’s been ...

Re: Hermit crab molting for TOO long
Could you fill out the emergency template? Unfortunately if she’s giving off the smell she’s likely passed. If it was her first molt it’s likely pps.

Re: 2 months and 22 days since Bingo came up (yes, i counted)
I had my hermie not even the size of a golfball take over two months- don’t worry! Bigger crabs can take much longer, up to a year in some cases.

Coconut came up!
I recently had my first successful molt despite poor heater placement and other various factors going against coconut! He has a bit more color than he used to, his claw is so purple! (Ignore the mess, lol) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210228/dc3bec45ecb2fc1cb180962ec264a0e5.jpg https://uploads...

Re: Moldy Moss
I've found it needs good airflow to keep from molding. I also let mine dry out and then rewet it so it doesn't say wet at all times. The crabs don't care. Eventually the mold will run it's course, or having springtails will keep it away completely. Thanks, I’ll try out a different type of pit :) Se...

Moldy Moss
Hey, so like many others on here I have a moss pit. It’s pillow moss on the very bottom and then sphagnum all the way up, about 3- 4 inches tall (I use one of those cylindrical food containers that a lot of restaurants started using with the pandemic). The moss isn’t touching any substrate and the t...

Re: where are your crabs?
Personally I think you would be as long as you check on them at least once a day

Re: where are your crabs?
Mine are kept in my room, but I’m actually not in there that much if that gives you any peace of mind I have a 20L and a 10g that I’ll hopefully have out of commission as soon as I can move my molter to my 20.

Re: Good light for hermit crab?
They can have both! Personally I use UVB because my tanks aren’t in an area with a lot of light, but I know a lot of crabbers that use LED

Meet Hotpocket!
I got a new buddy for Bug while Coconut has been down as he seemed lonely, but low and behold Bug went down in the three hours I was gone at work and getting Hotpocket [emoji23]. Hotpocket has been adjusting to the tank alone, and may I say I think his shell is a bit big on him! https://uploads.tapa...

Cleaning New Tank
Hi there! For some background, I have a 20-gallon tank that I acquired through offer up as I want to get my crabs out of their 10 gallon (not crowded, I just want more building room and to be able to take in some new ones perhaps). The 20 gal was quite dirty though and definitely needed some TLC so ...
