Re: Naked crab
crabs get lonely so they do need a friend. however dont get another crab until you improve your tank conditions from the advice angelbear gave and from the care sheets

when you say heat pads in your tank, you mean on the outside right? heat pads shouldn’t be on the inside the crabs could burn

Re: Craft Moss
also a 29 gallon is still not enough for 6 crabs. you need at least 60 gallons. 10 gallons per crab at least

Re: New Hermit Crabs
your crab friends are most likely purple punchers considering you got them at petsmart. distilled water doesn’t contain the minerals that the crabs need. most people use tap water, and then a dechlorinator. a lot of us use the brand prime. and i am not sure if that salt is safe either (most products...

Re: General food info
some things that crabbers reccomend to have everyday are worm castings and green sand. to be honest i’m not sure of the nutritional needs of either. but i have seen it so many times “keep these in at all times” i just trust it, and do.

melon seeds safe?
i know pumpkin seeds and stuff are safe but just making sure. if i save some fresh melon seeds (specifically cantaloupe) can i give them to my crabs? and do i just leave them plain, like washed, or do they need to be broken up or baked or something?

Re: Fungus??
it just sounds like mold. happens a lot if you the branch was wet when you put it in, that’s probably why. it’s just from humidity like you said. from my knowledge there isn’t a lot of ways to prevent it. just change food out more often and see if that helps

Re: New crab has been buried for a month
whatever you do do not look for her. one month isn’t a very long time wait at least two more months before you even get worried. she is molting i’m guessing. the whole human POV of a molting crab is “are they dead?” i have a crab that is about 3/4” shell opening who has been down two months now whic...

Re: New Crab Owner with questions!
coconut fiber is recommended and used by a lot of users here! most people recommend a ratio of 1 part eco earth and one part play sand. however i use more because it was just how it worked out for me. the ratio doesn’t need to be strict but keep in mind more coconut fiber has a higher chance of floo...

is embroidery string safe?
for my bendy branch i used green embroidery string to hold the leaves around it. i just tied knots every seven inches or so. i’ve seen that people always say just jute, but is embroidery string safe in small portions like this?

Re: Molting, Sick or Dying?
in my opinion he doesn’t look like he would go into a molt. he is very hairy and doesn’t seem to be any white or cream coloring around his joints. if he is partially buried he could be molting or just destressing

you can post pictures by downloading the Tapatalk app(it’s very easy) and i’m not sure but i’m sure others will have a good idea if you get some photos out. it will give a better idea than a description
