Re: Weird Aggressive Behavior
Hopefully it all goes well. Just keep a eye on them and separate them as you see more. James might eventually give up. One of my Es has demonstrated aggression recently towards his(?) tankmate. Was on my way to leave for work when I witnessed Bean trying to get into poor Tomato's shell, guarding and...

Re: Crabs trash their tank - is that normal?
Mine do have a habit of throwing sand into their water dishes and then sitting in them like they've done nothing wrong.
So I would say its normal just like the others said ensure that they have plenty to climb on and possibly change the type of bowl used to help reduce it.

Two crabs underground for a while?
This might be nothing to worry about but given the death of a crab recently its been on my mind. Bean and a unnamed crab have been underground for weeks/months with the other one being down there since mid August. Is waiting it out all I can do? I don't want to dig up and accidentally harm them. I k...

Re: Fly invasion!
They are tiny and black with oval bodies. Could be fruit flies or something similar. I've seen them outside of the tank in smaller numbers.
After taking out Sakura the number did seem to decrease dramatically so I might have to ensure there is little to no rotting matter in the tank.

Fly invasion!
Some sort of fly or another tiny insect has taken over my tank and might have led to the potential death of poor Sakura (or they could have fed on her corpse)
How can I get it under control? My fear now is that they are tunneling and potentially laying eggs on other molting crabs.

Re: Holey shell stubbornness?
Update! Pistachio (what I've renamed Rocky Road) has finally left his previous shell. Found him this morning with Sakura's store shell. It was previously glazed but I had peeled off as much of the coating as I could. Its a light one so even if its more bulkier than his older one, it won't inconvenie...

Re: Crab Stays in One Spot
I've been having a similar issue. One of mine hasn't left the inside of the coconut in days. There was no movement upon adjusting the coconut. Could be dead, could be molting. Its hard to tell and i rather not accidentally stress and kill her.

Holey shell stubbornness?
For about a week I've had my crabs and while the others have swapped, Rocky Road and Bean haven't. Bean's shell still seems efficient so I'm not concerned but Rocky's shell has a huge hole near the back. The last thing I need is a stray claw to poke his abdomen. Any tips to encourage Rocky t...

Re: Why won't my hermies climb lol
20"long x 10" deep x 8"wide....not sure how many gallons that is Likely a 10 gallon. Mine has very similar dimensions. As for the lack of climbing, every crab is different. Some love it while others don't. (Looks at Bean who has claimed the top of my coconut and ladder hide) They might also have a ...

Tunneling under water pool concerns?
Bean is digging away again, this time under one of the corner water bowls i have set up. One of his tunnels collapsed (or was hidden) and now he seems slightly lost underground? He keeps trying to go straight up when the bowl is in the way. Should I move the bowl? Or let him sort it out? Could be ch...

What are the eye shapes? I might suspect and E as well. Ecuadorians are usually very active with the last segment of their legs being darker than the rest. There are some good articles out here about identification. I'm also thinking Maybe a Blueberry? I only own PPs though. Heres a good article ht...

My crab gang!
Bean- bluish gray, pretty small. Species: unknown, suspecting E Rocky Road- bluish gray? Could be a type of tan as well. Noticeable darker brown stripes on legs, white on bottom of claws I think and on neck Species: unknown Sakura- biggest crab of the bunch. Lighter red with a purple big claw. Unsur...

Crab has taken a liking to bran flakes
As an experiment I threw in a couple of small pieces of bran from raisin bran cereal into my tank. My smallest crab (Who I'm currently nicknaming Bean) consumed quite one of the larger chunks. I assume its safe since its not super sweet and doesn't appear to be in any dangerous plant families. They ...

Re: Smallest loves to dig
That's great that he's active! Are they eating well? What are you using for a setup? Currently have a 10 gal and I do plan on upgrading as soon as I can. Once I get paid in a few days I will get them a second heater since I am struggling with maintaining anything higher than 75 (will get 77-80 clos...

Smallest loves to dig
I've had my crabs for a couple of days now. The smallest of the bunch, who is an adorable bluish gray has been digging all around. Its made a tunnel or two to chill for a bit. Might be preparing to molt or even just destressing but its been my most active and curious crab yet.
