Did you end up using paracord?
I found Jute, but everything I read, says its probably treated because it has a smell.
how do we find something affordable that we can make things with?

Re: Hot Glue Tack, then Silicone?
I know this is an old post, but I'm doing research, to turn my ZooMed into the tank topper, and have the same issue. I am 5ft 1/2 inch. I got the ZooMed because of the doors. I bought a small coffee table, (with high weight rating), for my tank, so that it is not as high. I am hoping it will still w...

Re: Three new Crabs
I did moisten to sand castle consistency with salt water. I unfortunately have the lid that came with my tank, so I couldn't find one that glass or sealed. I ended up putting contact paper over the top to keep the moisture in (where I didn't have lights). But my heater finally came in, and that seem...

Re: Three new Crabs
So how do I keep the sand wet. I spray and spray. I have kept the water full, and changed the food every few days. Doesn't look like they are eating.
Today I noticed the sand is getting very dry. I have an idea where the crabs may be (best gestimate), but don't want to disturb them.

Re: crabs switching shells
I just got 3 crabs, the one we call Violet, switched shells three times the first day in the new tank.
First, it was too heavy,
Then it was too big, and I guess the third was just right.

Re: Three new Crabs
I've noticed at least has 1 has come up. I can see one's shell, he's the smallest so i'm not sure why he doesn't bury himself fully.
I just keep the temp and humidity good, and give them fresh water and food.

We did end up going to Home Depot and found it. I feel like 50lbs was not even enough.

Re: Three new Crabs
Thanks! We know where two are. The third bigger one, we think we found him (can't see him, but saw sand disturbed where we saw them last)
How long will they hid? They have been hiding since the day after we put them in the new tank.
Our one crab changed her shell three times, then hid!

Three new Crabs
I've never had my own hermit Crabs. We bought three. 2 on vacation and 1 after we came home. First one Violet, changed her shell 3 x, 1st immediately after getting in the new tank. I had to keep them in the critter keeper for a few days before I was able to get the tank and sand, and other substrate...

This is super awesome. Question about your water on each side. (newbie- sorry)
I thought they would drown if there was that much water?

I picked up some crabs on vacation (in Virginia Beach) No knowing, but also knowing they couldn't live in that little cage. Trying to keep them warm and semi comfortable (who knows how long they are in the pet store ) :( We got our cage, and waiting for everything else to come in. I posted elsewhere...
