Crabs can’t change genders, you may just not have noticed the gonopores previously. Can you post a picture of the eggs? If they’re in the water there’s a chance it could be grain mite eggs.

How deep is the substrate? How much protein are you feeding?

Also it’s not recommended to bathe or play with your crabs, it stresses them out. Also substrate doesn’t need to be replaced, it can be used for years.

Melafix isn't a great idea for crabs because it's tea tree oil, which is an insecticide and could potentially cause gill damage.
