can my hermie be kept alone?

i prevously had two hermies, one has passed recently (scully). i was wondering if it would be possible to keep my remaining crab (mulder) by herself? i have ample space for multiple crabs, but mulder is extremely food and shell defensive and i think it may be the reason for scullys death. they never...

Re: what is this white stuff on my crabs underside?

apologies for the blurry image, this was the best i was able to get. https://i.postimg.cc/nhXL46db/20230410-224629.jpg you can see how its patchy, if it wasnt only in some areas i wouldnt be worried. both gonopores are only about half filled with the white stuff and i have no idea what it is. its in...

Re: hermit crabs gonopores are white, is it an infection?

thank you so much for the info, i was worried it was some kind of infection. the crabby being intersex would definetly explain a lot of odd traits i had noticed. shes getting ready to molt, i bet that has something to do with the gonopores turning white so suddenly. again thank you, ive had a seriou...

hermit crabs gonopores are white, is it an infection?

apologies because i havent been able to get any photos of it, the crab in question is extremely skittish and doesnt like being picked up. i noticed about a month ago when my crabby was climbing that her gonopores had white bits in them, which i found concerning. ive absolutely SCRAPED the internet a...

Re: first molt with my crabs, should i be concerned?

She's in a tank by herself, I moved the other one out to a new setup because he was digging in the same spot she was buried and i was worried he was going to dig her up. She didn't surface molt, she was perfectly fine except she was a weird chalky grey color. I just woke up the next morning and she ...

How do I tell if my molting crab is dead?

I posted a few days ago on here about one of my molting crabs that I was worried about. I noticed today that the cage smelled gross, kind of like fish, and she still hasn't come back up. She's in a separate tank and there's nothing in there that could be making that smell. I replaced the sand just u...

Making food for my little guys, any suggestions on what to add?

Hello, i'm fairly new to hermit crab keeping so i need some advice from more experienced owners. About a month ago i got Mulder from a home that only fed him gross smelling store pellets (yuck). i've made food for my hermies but for reasons i'm not sure of he won't take anything fresh. he wont touch...
