Compressus Clypeatus!
My work sells hermit crabs, and I hate it but have done my best to improve their care. We now sell 3 gallon tanks and natural shells which is a set in the right direction but I won’t stop there! Anyways, my sister told me that they sent home the last two PPs with me yesterday and I was confused at t...

Re: Zoo Med Creature Soil w/ sand as a substrate? by KyMart
I would think not - the ingredients include soil, and the word 'proprietary' basically means they made up a mix and don't have to disclose everything that includes. Is the tank for a temporary transport? How long will they be in transit? Maybe a cooler with some hand warmers (for heat) and some mos...

Zoo Med Creature Soil w/ sand as a substrate? by KyMart
Hi, guys! I am buying a small 3 gallon tank set for transport reasons for my crabs! It comes with a bag of Zoo Med Creature Soil, is this okay to use with my crabs? Any input is appreciated! Thank you as always!

Re: I did a good thing today! by KyMart
No chance of persuading him not to sell crabs? Sadly, probably not. The only thing I can really do is convince him to provide them with better care in a way that will make his business better. If we are going to sell crabs, I want to do it the right way with good information, good products, good ca...

The natural shelled crabs are put into the shipment by accident, but if I happen to see one at our store I am going to buy it so fast!

Re: 911 emergency situation in progress, need help quickly!
Do not dip a freshly molted crab in water. I feel that it’s a good thing to do for safety. Freshly mottled crabs smell different than the other crabs in the tank, just like how new crabs small different as well. Giving everyone a dip in freshwater won’t hurt anything, and I think that it’s best in ...

Re: 911 emergency situation in progress, need help quickly!
I would recommend offered a more diet with more variety and lots of protein to avoid them eating each other, I would add more shells to help stop shell jacking/violence, I would also add more substrate (until like 6 inches atleast) to help them have more space to molt to avoid them digging each othe...

Re: haven't seen hermit crabs in days
I have 2 hermit crabs that I got a few weeks ago, and they seemed to be doing fine, but I haven't seen them in days, nor do I think anything in their tank has moved around. The most recent change was I added a bunch of new shells, and the night before then was the last tine I saw them. I got the sh...

Re: Hermit crab buried but Crabitat needs to be cleaned
My dad managed to get a better look at theflies, they're fruit flies! So glad to hear that they are just fruit flies! Them little pesky buggers, I'm so glad my tank hasn't attracted them, I would get so annoyed so fast! If I were you, I would get isopods, they are a great cleanup crew and will eat ...

I know Curly has had the same substrate for over a decade, she's just added more as her crabs have grown and as she upgraded tanks!

Re: Newbie: Substrate Questiono
The money isn't an issue but I read it's good to change out your substrate every 30 days or so (yes?) so I'll just buy play sand with my next round, or at least start to integrate it in as I scoop out the crap. Most crabbers never replace their substrate, just add more as needed (when the crabs gro...
