New tank smells like gas
So I just pulled out a 40 gal tank from the garage and my father had stored gasoline and oil jugs in it. I cleaned it out well but it still smells of gas. I need to put my babies in it soon because there old tank is going to some more critters I'm getting in. What do I do!

Re: Noticably smaller crab
Ok! Already on all of that. I was confused since he was in a shell, but that could have been the case. He's doing good.

Re: Noticably smaller crab
He was underground. I didn't intentionally dig him up but when I was smoothing out the sand I found him. He was under the water dish. And I didn't see and exoskeleton. Edit: put the play sand in. It's moist but I'm unsure if it's a good moist. Like idk if the water is clean. Is it fine to put them s...

Re: Noticably smaller crab
So my littlest crab burryed himself and lest his old shell. I was excited because I figured he was finally molting! I left the tank undisturbed for a while (other then food and water stuff) and it's been a few weeks from that point. There tank was a mess so I was cleaning things up and I found him. ...

Re: Noticably smaller crab
Nice! Should I wash the play sand before I put it in or is it ok to just put it right in?

Re: Noticably smaller crab
Thank you! I'm figuring out the logistics of getting the 40 gal into my room, but any tips on how to keep moisture in since it had no top? I can diy myself a lid just fine but something temporary might be good.

Re: Noticably smaller crab
Right now they have a coconut hide and a coconut fiber climbing mat. There are also some faux Fishtank plants. Thru also have both fresh water and salt water bowls that they can get in and out of. And a small wheel.

Re: Noticably smaller crab
Mmmm, I've been thinking of moving them into one of the 40 gal tanks I have. The one there in right now is to small for 6 in and it would only leave maybe 2 or 3 inches at the top. I've just been needing to find a place to put it. Are crabs sensitive to how much space they have or do they not care?

Re: Noticably smaller crab
I think it's about 3 inches deep? It's sand mixed with coconut fiber. He buried himself resently. Maybe a month ago.

Noticably smaller crab
I have one crab that is very small compared to my others. I haven't seen any signs of him shedding in a really long time and he's been in the same shell for maybe 5 months. Is there something wrong with him? He acts normal.

Re: Hermit crabs out and potentially sluggish.
Alright! I guess the high humidity is coaxing them out! Thank you!

Hermit crabs out and potentially sluggish.
So I have three herms in a 20 gallon tank. They bury themselves for months at a time and I know it's normal and ok for them but resently they have been out constantly. It's two In particular that are out day and night. It's been almost two weeks now I think. I've noticed today and somewhat yesterday...
