Re: Hermie Help
I do now. I have several in there and they’ve changed shells frequently trying to find the right one. They appear to be getting along fine now that both have a new shell. We had quite a few in there but they were painted from the shore and I guess they didn’t care for them

Re: Hermie Help
The only reason I knew he was absolutely naked underneath there is because we only had three other shelves in there, and all three of those shelves are still empty. I decided to dig him up because the other hermit crab was acting weird about not wanting to be in the substrate And was exclusively han...

Re: Hermie Help
Ok so update they both came up from the sand and one must have molted because I found some parts in the substrate. That being said the one went back under a couple days ago and today we found his empty shell on the surface. We got really excited to see what she’ll ge chose to take its place but we’r...

Re: Hermie Help
I checked the hygrometer and it’s now 80% humidity in there with the lid covered. Is that good or too high?

Re: Hermie Help
I rewrapped the lid in Saran Wrap a couple days ago and the heat stayed about the same which was around 78. The food from the hermit crab shack came in and wow was there a great selection!! I put green sand, cuddlebone and dried shrimp in the immediately. Sadly though they both buried themselves day...

Re: Hermie Help
The temp in the tank right now with no heater and mesh top is 78 and the hygrometer says 78 as well. I’m so sorry for all the questions, I realize I’m being annoying. I’d just rather get real answers then waste all my time on the internet being told so many different contradictory things.

Re: Hermie Help
Should I only use the heater in the fall/winter? I live in NJ and it’s been very warm here and my daughters room is the warmest of the whole house

Re: Hermie Help
I do have a heater but I switched it off because the temp was always closer to 83/85 anymore and even their shells felt too warm when I’d pick them up. I have a salt water pool and a fresh water bowl. I will stop misting as now understand that’s no longer necessary if they have a pool. I never see t...

Re: Hermie Help
I appreciate all the feedback! I can say I definitely started covering the top to the tank and when I did this the temp would rise to closer to 85/87 degrees in there and it felt like I was cooking them. That’s when they both buried themselves in the sand and I haven’t seen them since and everything...

Hermie Help
Hi everyone. About three weeks ago I purchased two hermit crabs while on vacation at a New Jersey beach and the sales person assured me that they are extremely easy to take care of. Being the pet lover that I am I did a lot of research and I found out quickly, that of course was not true. Since brin...
