Re: Is he dead? NO movement but no smell
Normal color but absolutely no movement. He seems in there pretty good. But we did everything we could to get movement and nothing. Just seems so bizarre since he looks and smells normal.

Re: Failing at heat/humidity
Probably a really stupid question, but how do you know which side of the UTH to tape to the glass? Does it really matter? I think I have the copper strips against the glass, but it was completely random as I taped it on. Also I have insulated by putting foil around cardboard and taping it to the bac...

Re: Failing at heat/humidity
1. What size tank and how long has it been setup? 20 gal, 2 weeks 2. What kind of lid? Is it sealed all the way around? Its a grid but I keep a warm towel over most of it. 3. Is the UTH on the back of the tank covering any of the substrate? On the back just above the substrate 4. Is the back insulat...

Failing at heat/humidity
I can't get this heat and humidity right. I have an auto mister that sprays every hour and a UTH from reptile basics that covers the full back. Overnight my temp drops to 67-68 and the humidity drops to 69-70. During the day I can get it to 71 temp and 76 humidity but even then I have to spend my da...

Re: UTH Touching Substrate?
I was afraid it would dry their sub out. I have a 13in high tank and the heater will cover 11 of that. So I wasn't sure of that was too much

UTH Touching Substrate?
How bad is it for a UTH to touch the substrate? I ordered one off of reptile basics but got 11x23. After I ordered it I read how the heater should not touch the substrate. Well my tank is 12x30, so it will absolutely touch the substrate. How bad is this? Should I keep this heater or try and return i...

Re: Newbie: Substrate Questiono
Most crabbers never replace their substrate, just add more as needed (when the crabs grow, or the sand shrinks ). Unless there is a bacterial bloom, flood in your tank, or issues regarding substrate (people have had weird things happen!), there's really no need to change it all out! How many i...

Re: Newbie: Substrate Question
The money isn't an issue but I read it's good to change out your substrate every 30 days or so (yes?) so I'll just buy play sand with my next round, or at least start to integrate it in as I scoop out the crap.

Newbie: Substrate Question
Hello all, I'm about to be a new crab owner and have been preparing. This site has been a great help. However something I would like clarity on is substrate. 1. I purchased Fluker's Hermit Beach Sand and also blocks of eco earth. I've seen about the 5:1 ratio, but do I actually physically mix the sa...
