Isopods?
A biology teacher at my school had isopods left over from a lab and i am wondering if there are any major changes I’ll need to make to my crabitat to support isopods? It stays at a stable temperature and humidity and has ample hiding zones for the isopods to live under such as leaves, rocks, and bra...

Water temperature
If the water that I give to my purple pincers is cold is it detrimental to their health? Wondering for both saltwater and freshwater if that matters in any way, and my crabitat is usually around 82 degrees.

Mold underneath water dish
I just came home and went to feed my hermit crabs and noticed one of the water dishes in my crabitat has what I assume to be mold underneath it. Is this safe? If not how do I go about cleaning it? Can I just scoop the “infected” sand out?

Can hermit crabs have Rainbow Carrots?
A few hours ago, I previously posted regarding if my purple pincer hermit crabs can have ornamental /Indian corn. Once again, I find myself wondering if another vegetable I’m growing is also safe for them. I know carrots are great for hermit crabs especially in bringing out their color, but I was wo...

Can hermit crabs have Ornamental/Indian Corn?
Just finished planting ornamental, commonly called “Indian” corn in my garden when I began to wonder if hermit crabs can have it? I looked through some forms and nothing was mentioned about it (unless I missed it). I’ve seen they can have regular yellow corn, but they’re different species, so I just...

Re: Crab in turbo shell the wrong way
If they do it just to eat or rest for a little while and then move to another location, it's no big deal and it's just them being little weirdos. I've seen my own crabs do this occasionally, usually when something yummy catches their attention. If they're in that position and not moving for an exte...

Re: Crab in turbo shell the wrong way
How has he been with shells before? His abdomen may be on a different side as most crabs so he might just be looking for the righ shell shape. That's just an idea of course, I dont have the context to know for sure I’ve only had him for a few months and I haven’t seen him in other shells so I can’t...

Re: Crab in turbo shell the wrong way
He has only been in this turbo shell since I got him a few months ago so I can’t say how he has been in past shells.

Crab in turbo shell the wrong way
This morning I went to my crabitat to check on my crabs and when I was looking at one of my crabs, I noticed he was wearing his turbo upside down if that makes sense. The curve of the shell was on the wrong side rather than on the usual side like usual. Will he fix it himself or should I do somethin...

Re: I have a new hermit crab who has been underneath the substrate for a month
If he is dead, there is nothing to be gained by digging him up - he will just compost into the substrate and not harm any other crabs in the tank. If he is in the process of molting, you can harm him by digging him up. So it's best not to dig, unless there is an emergency like a flood or bacterial ...

I have a new hermit crab who has been underneath the substrate for a month
Exactly one month ago today, I got a new hermit crab from my local petco. I had a crab die so I wanted to get a new one to give the one who was left behind a friend. The first two days I had him he was very active even in the day time, and was very social and active with my 3 other crabs. On the sec...
