The little spikes on crab's legs.. What's it? I'm worried
Hello everyone. My biggest crab molted and came out of the sand only a couple of days ago. Today I took him out of the terrarium to check that the crab was okay. And I noticed tiny black spikes on his legs. What's it? Are these spikes needed for better grip on the ground or something like that? Or i...

I can't find my crab after molting
Hi all, my crabs have been living with me for a year now and everything has been fine. My crabs have grown a bit in that time. My biggest crab buried himself in the sand and has been molting for about a month and a half (I was very worried about this, as it usually takes about a month to molt.) I re...

Thanks!curlysister wrote: A new crab might dig underground to de-stress, or it might have been quite a while since it had enough substrate to molt in. I would not be worried at all.

Re: Should I change something or add something to my crab house?
this is a bit of a late reply, but i think i see some Painted decorations in there? if there is remove them as paint is toxic What do you mean? If we are talking about colored starfish, they are safe because they are made of glass. The blue food bowl is made of safe plastic. Green plants are plants...

Re: Should I change something or add something to my crab house?
HCA recommends that substrate be 2-3 times as deep as the largest crab. I wanted to ask you, is it normal that a new crab immediately burrowed into the sand? (I bought this a few days ago) I know that new crabs usually behave very strangely, but my other crabs didn't do that. The new baby buried hi...

Re: Should I change something or add something to my crab house?
the tank is great! except for the ten centimeter sand. The sand should be much deeper in order for the hermit crabs to molt properly. but this is much better than when i got my first tank! (if this is your first tank, Its still great) Thanks! My crabs are very small, about 2-3 centimeters, so I thi...

Should I change something or add something to my crab house?
Hello again, everyone. I'm wondering if I should add anything or change anything to my crab house? I have 3 small crabs living here Container capacity: 25 gallons Temperature in the warm corner of the container: 78.8f. Total temperature: 78.0f. Sand depth is approximately 10 centimeters deep Sand an...

Re: A few questions about my new crab
I’m not that good with species ID outside of what we normally see in the United States so I’ll refrain from answering there As for general questions, if the new crab can still move around okay I doubt it’ll be eaten. If dropped due to stress or disease the legs are usually unattached at the joints,...

A few questions about my new crab
Hello again, everyone. I recently did a post about how one of my crabs is introverted and the other is extroverted. I have a pretty big terrarium, so I got another friend for my crabs. I felt sorry for this little guy because he had a few legs bitten off, so I took him home and I wanted to see if it...

Re: A few questions about crabs
I can help with two of your questions.... Yes, it is very normal for crabs to stay in the same shell for a long time. And the larger they get, the less they will change shells. I often leave my crabs for up to a week without having anyone come and look after them. I always leave dried foods only, n...

A few questions about crabs
Hello again, everyone. I still have questions about keeping hermit crabs, so I decided to make another post. (In my country hardly anyone keeps hermit crabs as pets, so I didn't have much information...) 1. Is it normal that a larger hermit crab will sometimes attack a smaller crab? (I already did a...

Re: Does falling from a branch harm crabs?
Hi! That behavior sounds pretty normal to me!! Different crabs have different personalities, so the one probably is just less social. I have a crab like that! Also, I see that you’ve gotten a response about the branch falling thing, but I wanted to say that it probably won’t hurt your crabs at all....

Re: Does falling from a branch harm crabs?
My old tank was 3 feet high and I regularly had divers launch from the top branches! Never had an issue though I moved the resin water dishes away from the landing zones just in case. Thanks for the reply. I also wanted to know about the fact that my crabs don't communicate with each other. I have ...

Does falling from a branch harm crabs?
Hello everyone again. I recently put a lot of driftwood and twigs in my crab terrarium. They really like to climb them, but I noticed that they often fall down from the branch. I've been watching the crabs and they can get off the branches if they get to the top of them, but they just jump down and ...

Re: I think I've lost my crab
Small crabs will take a couple weeks to molt. To moisten the sand either spray it or pour small amounts of water along the sides of the tank Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thank you. Now my crab is behaving strangely :( he has been just digging sand for two days. Yesterday he made a huge tunnel...
