HCA: Hermit Crab Association

What does the cholla wood smell like? I got some second hand and it smells like cigarettes. Is that normal or maybe these people were smokers? I am waiting to find out before I attempt to put them in the tank. I soaked them in salt water and they still smell funny. Do they have a distinct odor?

I spray first, if it's low on the open side, (only drops to 70%)then switch the opening to the other side. It goes up reliably quickly.
