Re: Crab digging up molter?
yeah seamore could have passed before shelly dug him up, it was his first molt with me after being in poor conditions for a year and a half, i adopted him in early december. Update on shelly, i found him digging exactly where my other hermie clawdia is molting so i moved him into a temporary tank be...

Crab digging up molter?
One of my bigger hermit crabs Seamore went down to molt on december 30th. when he went down, he was wearing a brown banded tapestry shell, and i only have one of that kind of shell. When i went to check on the hermies tonight i noticed that shell and thought seamore had come up from his molt because...

Re: Best way to drive with hermit crabs?
When I transport small pets in winter, I use a vented container with bedding/padding inside of an insulated lunch pail, with a small heating pad. (We have snugglesafes for our cats, but hothands work, too!) For hermits, it'll be moistened moss or paper towels in a deli container, with holes punched...

Re: Best way to drive with hermit crabs?
You won't want to move the tank full of substrate, it will be heavy and the tank may break. Depending on your weather, you may want to consider a source of heat (even some water bottles filled with hot water, or hand warmers, etc). And something so they have some humidity, like some damp moss or co...

Best way to drive with hermit crabs?
In a couple days i am adopting 2 more hermit crabs i’m so excited! the only thing i’m a little nervous about is the drive is 2 hours long. what is the best way to go about this? the person i am adopting them from is giving me the tank so i don’t have to bring anything extra, i believe it’s a 20 gall...

Seachem Prime dosage
I know this might be a silly question, but i’ve been using 2 jugs to prepare and store my water. i use instant ocean (1/2 cup mixed with 1 gallon jug of tap water) for the salt pool and regular tap water for my freshwater pool, and i have been using 2 drops of seachem prime in both jugs and using th...

Re: Can grain mites travel on hermit crabs to new tanks?
Just remember that I'd you have food/ grain mites they can act as a cleanup crew for the tank and help clean up the crabs poo. I don't think the mites will usually be on the crabs, but they might. I think you can maybe dip the crabs in some freshwater to get off the mites? (I know you are not suppo...

Can grain mites travel on hermit crabs to new tanks?
So I noticed my 10 gallon iso tank has some tiny tan mites hanging out on the wood decor and i have 2 new adoption crabs in there right now (1 molting and 1 i’m planning on moving to the main 150 gallon tank tomorrow), and i think what attracted them in there is some spilled chia seeds made a mini c...

Cleaning products around tank?
My tank is in my living room which is across from my kitchen and dining room, and i was about to mop my floor with a cleaner but then stopped because i’m not sure if that’s safe around the tank. does anyone know if that’s safe or i should use vinegar that’s really diluted? also when I’m using cleani...

Ongoing issue with keeping sand moist?
So i had been working on my tank upgrade which is a150 gallon ReptiZoo front opening terrarium and i’ve made it almost completely airtight (plexiglass on the mesh lid, plastic wrap covering any other opening and covering the small gaps where the doors slide). the first time i mixed up my substrate i...

Re: POSSIBLY SICK NAKED CRAB?? :(
It's good that he went back into a shell. I would keep him isolated from your other crabs - even in an empty margarine container with holes cut in the lid, in the main tank. Give him some high energy foods. He stayed in the coconut hut all night, i did look him a little bit and inspect the tank and...
