Re: New Tank Help Please!!

The tank I have right now has 2.5-3 bags (of the 50lb play sand) and it's at 6 inches. I haven't used any eco earth. I know they sell big bags of it though if you wanted to mix that in with the sand.

Re: New Tank Help Please!!

- I'm using the large ZooMed heating mat. It's 8x18inches and 24 watts. Although, I have also heard really good things about Ultratherm but I have no personal experience with them. But I am planning on trying them out in the winter if I need to add a second one. https://www.amazon.com/LABORATORIES-R...

Re: New Tank Help Please!!

As for the heat mat, you want it on the sides of the tank. I put a large on the back and because my tank gets a lot of sunlight, it stays warm enough. So depending on where you live, climate wise, you may need more if you live in a colder region. In winter, I will probably add a second heating mat. ...

Re: New Tank Help Please!!

Q: we exclusively used 3 blocks of Zoo Med Hermit Soil/ eco earth until last year when my sister bought a pack of Flukers hermit beach sand which we mixed in- we are nowhere near the sand/soil ratio that other people suggest. Should I add more sand to our mix? Or keep it soil heavy since our crabs h...

Re: Crabs keep pushing empty shells into freshwater pool

Sometimes crabs just do weird things like this. Maybe they dont like that shell? Lol. I'm not sure. I have no personal experience with this, but it's not screaming anything in particular out to me. The only thing I could think of is maybe one day you could upgrade to a larger tank? But that's all I ...

New 40G Crabitat!

I finally got everything together for my 40 gallon crabitat. Prior to this, I had two seperate 10 gallon tanks each with two hermit crabs in them. The first tank had Bada and Bing, which were two hermit crabs I brought home from the shore and in the second tank were Pauly and Snooki, who I adopted s...

Re: Ocean City, NJ - General Announcment

Yes, this is unfortunately very true. My mom's best friend has a hosue in Sea Isle, NJ and has seen the big cages trashed in the dumpsters. One time she attempted to rescue any survivors but it was too late at that point. It is a major issue :(

Does this answer your questions? I don't use moss, so feel free to ask if the care sheet doesn't tell you everything you want to know!

Re: A Happy Self Re-Introduction & Welcome to Bada + Bing!

Here's a couple pics. They're still in their temporary tank but I'm picking up my 40 gallon from my mom's house by this weekend. I'm very exctied! But for now here's a couple pics of Bada & Bing. Re: Finding a new hermit crab

You can keep checking the adoption forums here and make a post as an adopter as well.

You can also check E-Bay. Surprisingly I've found adoptions on there. But be careful, Ebay can be sketchy so make sure to meet in a safe public place during the daytime.

Safe/Unsafe Moss?

I want to add a couple moss pits around my tank and I'm wondering if there are any unsafe moss types. Also, are there any specific kinds that are better than others?

I apologize if there's already a forum on this topic and if so, feel free to direct me there.

TIA

Re: A Happy Self Re-Introduction & Welcome to Bada + Bing!

Welcome home to Bada and Bing!! I'm brand new to HCs and I learned about how awful the beach shops are *after* I had bought mine. But at least now ours are in safe, good homes!! Thanks for the welcome! And I'm very glad to hear that. It's surprising how many people will buy animals and not take the...

Re: Temporary Tank Set Up for New Crabbies

Okay that gives me some hope at least. I'm going to try the heatpads on all sides and see how that works. And at least I know I can use a heat lamp if I really need it. One thing I definitely remember is how difficult it was to keep 80% humidity and 80 degree temps simultaneously but it makes sense ...
