Re: Can someone describe the "molting" smell?
Ugh. Many a quiet evening has been interrupted by April coming up from the basement and dropping a live mouse in the middle of the living room. We'd have to drop everything and find the mouse before she mangled it.

Re: Can someone describe the "molting" smell?
I'm picturing a feeling of disgust when a ladybug vomits that yellow gunk on me. They're cute insects, but they've got to quit chewing tobacco. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Re: Can someone describe the "molting" smell?
It's different than the woodsy, organic crabitat smell. Sort of like a glue smell. Sometimes there is no smell, or it is very faint, especially if the crab is buried. I wonder if different species make a different smell? Not that it would make a difference in their care, but it would be cool to know...

Ok, here's me from a few years ago, when I was at my "fightin weight." As in, I needed to look good because I wasn't married yet.

HELP HELP/CLICK HERE/DO THIS posts
Hey everyone,Recently there have been some instances of posts being made where the subject was something like HELP ME or READ THIS.For ages we had a thread in LHC that said that those kinds of posts were discouraged here, but the thread seems to have gotten lost somewhere. So this is reiteration of ...

Donating to landhermitcrabs.com
Hello everyone,Most of you know that I fund landhermitcrabs.com out of my pocket each month. Recently my financial situation has become quite difficult, owing in large part to the faltering economy and my husband being a financial advisor (stockbroker). It seems that nobody wants to invest anymore, ...

As long as the hidey you put on top of him keeps him nice and dark (as in, no sunlight shining into his shell opening), he should be fine. In the past I've put food and water dishes on top of molters to keep them dark. For a jumbo though, there is always a lot more of this :tearhair1:: and this :ban...

Re-burying a molter uncovered by mistake
Hey all, I was relaying this to another member via PM and realized that it might help other crabbers who happen upon molters by surprise: "Good news -- my big guy molted perfectly! I surprised him freshly molted and tried something new -- put his exo in a plastic cup, then put him in with it. Then I...

Great kid's book on hermit crabs
Hello! At the crabby get-together some of us had last week, I brought out a few of my favorite crab books. One that I forgot to bring out is this one: PagooThe book is called Pagoo. Pagoo is a marine hermit crab but it is still an absolutely wonderful book. I found it when I was in the third grade an...

Ummm... well to quote a favorite story of mine.. the land hermit crab population in Bermuda actually decreased after the advent of indoor plumbing. Yummy thought, that. Maybe your other hermies missed some nutrients on the first go around? Just be glad they aren't eating cork bark. Cork goes right t...
