Yeah, what is your salt mixture formula? :? The boxes have a formula for how much salt per a certain amount of water, but my hydrometer, or salt mesuring do-hicky (it's actually a refractometer) mesures below salt water level sometimes, perhaps because I'm mixing very small batches of it. This isn't...

Fiddler crab eggs!

I got a new PP on the weekend (see post in New crabs and owners), and my fiddler light was on Lightning, the new crab. I decided to check on my fiddlers today, as they have not been around lately, as far as I could see. Well, wouldn't you know it! Luna had eggs in a little purple "sponge" un...

Thanks! :D I used bags to hold the sand, but I figured out pretty fast that about 5kg of sand would not quite work well with a cheap Ziploc bag (the zipper completely came off and ripped). I ended up doubling all the bags (four of them) with more bags. Getting them in the car was a bit tricky!

I got my Fiddler crabs sand from Cablehead beach in PEI on our vacation. :P That stuff is amazing! I put some in with my hermits, and they loved it too! :) It is very fine grade, NO junk in it, and I got it way up on the side of a dune where the tide can't reach. No wonder it's so clean! :) I did no...

I used 5 minute epoxy, and that worked. I would recommend though that you should cover it in aquarium sealant, so high humidity doesn't soften it (like with me). Make sure you use a support. To use this epoxy, you have to mix two liquids (stir on newspaper, its kind of gooey).

Details: Crab race = death. simple as that. Don't get me started. TO THE ORIGINAL POSTER, ADVANCED ENTERTAINMENT: HCA is meant for the safety of crabs under the care of their owners, and getting to know others. :!: It is not, however, meant for trying to get some help for crab races. Also, it is not...

Yeah, that could work too. Mine evaporates, so if yours does, when you add fresh water, that could be OK.

I am getting fiddlers :D (look at sig), and I know that fiddlers require brackish water (semi-salty water, about half the salinity of ocean water) Aggression, escpecially by male fiddlers, is common. Male fiddlers are often very territorial. (they are distinguished from females by their very large c...

Welcome to HCA, Sentry! :D The short version is YES, you do need temp and humidity gauges. They are a MUST for keeping them alive. You need a dechlorinator. This is a chemical (liquid) that usually uses about a drop or two per gallon, depending on the strength of it. It will neutralize all of the ch...

Better late than never! I used to use Crabworx food until I joined HCA. :x I have only bought one shell, so far no one has used it. :| The dechlorinator seems to work fine. :) It isn't too expensive until you get to the hermie huts and food and water dishes (at my pet store around 20-25, I think). We have a shop vac, too, and the last time we had a flood in our basment, that thing scared our cat to no end! To your question, I have an idea. Using extra plexi glass, you can cut a base for the pool, and if it is to be kind of like in a triangular shape, use some more plexi to create an extra sid...
