Hey guys! Sorry a bit of a late reply here but wanted to provide updates. My move to the UK was delayed but I got here a little over a week ago. I couldnt bring my crabs over right away because US Airways doesnt allow them in the cabin or cargo, so my husband will have to bring them over with him la...

moving crabs overseas - can it be done?
Hello! I'm preparing for a move to the UK in a short few weeks and I'm not sure what can be done with my hermit crabs. I don't know if they'd survive the trip, and even if they did I'm not sure what customs would have to say about them. Has anyone done an overseas move and taken hermit crabs with th...

I do not touch him except to check to see if he is still alive about once a week. he has a small plastic cap of water and a small piece of paper plate with food on it. I switch between FMR and peanut butter (I tried dried fruit and honey but then decided that is too difficult to eat for one with no ...

the amazingly bad molt (but it ends OK)
Hey guys! I hardly ever post anymore but I thought I would take the time since I recently over winter break had quite a scare from one of my crabs. He had dug underground to molt and 3 months later I figured he was dead (only my BIGGEST crabs take that long to molt and he is medium sized), and since...

i believe your responders so far have given very good advice. i personally rarely to never handle my crabs. mine have never loved being handled and do the freak out dance when i pick them up, so you certainly dont ever need to feel bad about neglecting them. your crabs will entertain and keep eachot...

Hi sweetie, Sorry for your losses. :( Tetracyclene is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial related illnesses only. I don't know why FMR would tell you to use this as treatment for your crab suffering from heat exposure. That was not good advice. Tetracyclene is very dangerous to use on hermit crabs...

its a good idea, but im not sure how it would work to set it up on the same site for now though, since most of us know very little of marine hermit crab care. now eventually if we got a large enough knowledgeable group on here that could come up with some good care sheets I thik that would be a good...

zachary, it looks like a cool idea to keep the water bowl filled while you are away for extended periods of time. however be CERTAIN you have no small crabs in the tank with those things. i have seen drowned tinies in pet stores because they crawl in those things and they are so slippery they cant g...

laura, I have felt the same way about our help template being too long, I'm glad you brought it up. The template as it is is a little overwhelming. As far as a quick vs complete template goes... I vote lets try to keep things simple and stick with 1 template everyone can use. Honestly this cut-down ...

i did this once, and did exactly as hermit has described. let me save you a lot of headache...nonremovable water bowls look cool but are a pain in the rear. they are cool for about a week until you decide that taking half an hour to remove all gravel, etc and suck up gross water every few days is no...

if you collapse a tunnel on them they will fix it themselves, thats been my experience. but considering the circumstances i think you did the right thing, you dont want the little guy to suffocate. for the future though i would say if you know there is a crab molting in your tank dont mess with the ...

Hi troppo! I just PM'd megs but I'll post here what I told her as well. Paypal is by far the most convenient option. If you wrote a check or sent a money order you would have to make it a personal check to Christa or myself and then we would have to cash the check at the actual bank (depositing fore...

i think aussie crabber misquoted me there, i dont think bone meal is "likely" to be contaminated with lead and other things, i think that was true in the 80s and i think the 80s were a long time ago and food processing has come a long way. the info i posted was based on restrictions on feed for live...
