Re: Buried crab- but not in it's shell, do I dig to find it?

Guess I had a gut that she chose another shell. But good to know if we know for sure it’s naked to dig.

I’ve never came across this subject and everyone here has always said the only reasons to dig is for a flood and or bacteria bloom.

Edit: now I know there’s 3 reasons to dig.

Re: Don’t know what to do with heat mats?

https://beanfarm.com/ https://www.reptilebasics.com/ Not sure how your tank is built but for aquariums I know these UTH heaters work. I will be getting an 11x47 for my 55 gal. I have a 6x47 but I have to insulate the entire back and sides as well as using a blanket over the top and front. I was thin...

Re: They love poop

I collect moose poop, but only in the spring. I figure that they eat all the vegetation around here, which is sprayed with chemicals from the surrounding fields. So in the spring, there should be minimal amounts of any of the chemicals left in their diet and their poop. I have considered the deer p...

Re: Nitrate levels in tap water

Awesome! Thanks. I have been wondering if it was ok to add pothos to the freshwater because I can stretch it towards the light but I didn’t know if it might release something into the water since it can be toxic if the crabs eat it. I had it in the tank before with no problems but I didn’t have the ...

Nitrate levels in tap water

Sorry if the is has been discussed but I couldn’t find it if it has. I can’t keep nitrate levels lower than 5 ppm. My tap water has about 5 ppm as well. Maybe slightly lower but not 0. If I use prime it will lower it but only for 48 hrs. I tried plants in the freshwater which will lower nitrates but...

Re: Changing shells ALL the time

I’m not experienced but this sounds normal to me. He’s looking for the right fit. And I think smaller crabs molt more often and for shorter durations than larger crabs. But I wouldn’t be worried about 2 weeks. I think smallish crabs molt about once every 2-3 months or maybe once a month if they’re t...

Crabby has resurfaced but Mr Crabs is still sluggish after assumed first molt with us.

Crabby is back up after his longest hiatus yet. Seems like it’s been 1 month. This is his 3rd assumed molt with us. So that’s 2-3 molts in 9 months. Crabby is our original crab and the reason for this addiction/monstrosity. We acquired Crabby in October from Gulf shores, Alabama. I wasn’t interested...
