is Zoo Med Hermit Soil OK?

Post by jasonmom » Wed Jul 24, 2013 1:08 pm

I just read on another site not to use Zoo Med Hermit Soil. I've already bought some. If it's not good for my guys I don't want to use it. What are your opinions?

Looks like it's just coconut fiber which is fine. It's just too small of an amount to do any good! You can get big bricks of Eco Earth for not much more. You would have to buy 20 of those little hermit soil disks to have enough even for a 10 gal!

We use the hermit soil disks as emergency aids when our substrate gets a little to damp say from a naughty hermit dumping all the water from the bowl because the disks can be tossed in where the water is and will soak the water up as they expand they are great for spot treatments like this.Because of the size of the disks they aren't ideal for anything else and it is actually cheaper in the long run to buy the bricks of Eco Earth. All the Hermit Soil disks are are compressed coconut fiber so I don't understand why someone would think they are bad...
